Some applications of Levenshtein, such as spell checking and google suggest, seem like game physics in that they are consumed by humans, and gross approximations are good enough - even with occasional glitches. Speed trumps accuracy. Unless

Interesting. It's an android, and the cpu/gpu specs seem close to the 4s, with most 3D openGL apps being fast and smooth. I wonder why you're getting 100x better performance? Could be JS performance, but I'm using the l

A couple of centuries ago there was a movement to abolish patents. What stopped it was cheap imports threatening jobs - patents acted as a kind of import duty. Curiously, that was their origin.

What about reducing bugs through code reuse, in the form of libraries and frameworks? Because they have more users, more bugs have been found, reported and fixed. e.g. using standard libraries instead of writing your own.

Yes. partly it's easier parallelism. Generally, easier ways of doing things are successful. And partly. it's more efficient use of resources because finer-grained, therefore cheaper.

This also comes up in relational databases. There might be a nice, canonical way to represent what the data really is (i.e. what it represents). but then access patterns for how it is used mean that a different representation is better (u
