Genre is probably a prerequisite, yeah. I wouldn’t want to use something that basically firehosed every metal guitarist on earth into my feed when I’m looking for someone who’s into post-rock (or whatever)

Interesting. My perspective is pretty skewed as a semi-pro musician and someone who is mostly a recording artist and not a live band/jam guy. I think there are a lot of people who CAN do it all but might be open to collabs with the rig

Just a comment - love the idea, going to use this, I think it’s a good idea not to lead with “Tinder for X”. At this point Tinder occupies a pretty bad lexical territory of being one of the classic examples of anti-user practices and enshit

IMO you’re losing more people due to the location requirement than you are gaining a bad rap from scammers/spammers. I just went through the exact experience of the above poster, I blanket deny loc tracking.

It’s awesome that you did the simplest thing. Whenever I’ve done these kinds of attempts to collab with strangers online kinds of things, I’ve always found that people will express a desire to be in a band but are awful at creating music. J

I think, fwiw, I would rather work with someone who has the drive and motivation to finish a track of their own than merely recruit a noodler. I think that from a management perspective, I would also abhor opening up any sort of video/

Yeah, the IKEA model makes sense for a lot of reasons. But I think the broader aesthetic landscape draws that into question too - I can understand bland architecture or interior design, I have trouble understanding the relative simplicity o

I think that’s a bit simplistic. There are still a lot of plates, some of them go for $20 a piece are on people’s wedding registries. They’re “artisanal”. They’re what the fancy restaurants serve your food on. They might even be mass produc

I think you underestimate the skill/knowledge gap present in people who can download and tinker with an existing program vs. deploy it in a sensible way so that people can interact with it. I have friends in different areas of tech who

Great post! I have experimented with this a little bit and have wrestled with its limitations and enjoyed some of its more surprising benefits. I absolutely agree that tests that do things like “create 3 users, get all users, assert there a

I think this is paraphrased or exact copy from a conference talk. Not that I love the rhetorical question mode of communication, but it’s more understandable.

I mean, a study like this could deliver meaningful results, it’s just that this one doesn’t imo. Hypothetically, studies on the biology/physiology can be very interesting, but this one comes off as a bit vapid and disingenuous because

I’d say that LLM’s inability to handle DSL’s in particular is an interesting question on the topic of knowledge and language. Should a generally intelligent entity be able to quickly figure out a new dialect with little background? If I wer

The more I look at AI, the more I get the feeling that this is true. Spinning an intriguing sci-fi tale of apocalypse and extinction is relatively easy and serves to obfuscate any nearer-term concerns about AI behind a hypothetical that suc

I unfortunately agree - I would way rather see the “hoard” allocated toward real growth and investment than allocated toward weird pet projects or shareholder-attraction. The USA doesn’t have a shortage of consumption, it has resource alloc

I think this is a good, Graeber-tinged take on the labor supply and economics of automation. You can make an argument not that there’s a “real” labor shortage, merely a misallocation of labor that has undesirable consequences for consumers.

On one hand, product-development on the computer is a lot better when people actually use the computer to the best of its abilities. A lot of people will just leave shit in people’s heads or request one-offs to be done EOD because, I swear,

I really really really don’t like the “ideas are harmful” bent of your comment. Saying “drugs are bad” doesn’t harm anyone, even if you disagree, or think that it’s reductive or off base (because it is). Kids who grow up in homes where “har

They might mean that rather than using a mock, use a real typed object/instance of a real thing and inject it into the unit that you’re testing. Admittedly, that might meet the definition of a fake/mock once you get down to the le
