Reminds me of what my first-year econ professor in college once stated after disabusing myself and some other undergrads of our romantic notions about how life should work. "Do I shock you? This is capitalism."

Interesting idea and curious - because when I look at that visualization, the first thing it reminds me of is gource.

Light Table was getting lift and traction but didn't make it. There was a ton of conversation on it back in the day on HN, including great presentations by the creator (who had been a PM on Visual Studio as MSFT!). Definitely check it

Does this project take any inspiration from Light Table? Potential feature request - take the visualization beyond 2D. Really complex systems are usually an intricate graph (polite way of saying ball of yarn) and just visualizing in the 2D

Nice article. These stood out to me: > Software architecture matters probably more than anything else. A shitty implementation of a good abstraction causes no net harm to the code base. A bad abstraction or missing layer causes everythi

No, Pivotal Tracker did not invent this paradigm. For background, I started working around 2005. Before tools like Tracker or JIRA, people who were doing agile development did everything with physical index cards. There was a lot of controv

For what it's worth, I have family members who are Palestinian, so I am deeply sympathetic to the plight of the innocent people dying in Gaza and the West Bank. I am not of Palestinian ethnic background myself (complex family history).

I'm ready to believe you but the impression I have from your comment is that it would take quite a bit to convince you to take a step back from your personal beliefs and re-evaluate. It doesn't even matter what you believe, based

From my understanding of the HN guidelines, a technical discussion around the technology in this story is not an issue. Where things break down is when people starting talking about Israel vs Palestine, who is at fault, who should be punish

HN tries to really avoid this kind of discussion since it never goes anywhere productive. Folks who have really strong views on Israel/Gaza are not going to change their perspective because of a comment thread on Hacker News.

Same - when I saw the carpet book for sale it was over a thousand. Looks like a beautiful book but that is a lot of money. Have you visited any of Alexander's buildings? I still need to get out and see some. I saw a lecture from Kent B

I really wanted to read the work about carpets also and even found a copy available online. The price was massive sticker shock however and I couldn't justify buying it. I love that OOPSLA lecture, incidentally. In my view the software
