Somewhat with shame in the back of my mind, memes like these always tend to help me get the bigger picture of something faster than a long article.

Keenan Crane has been doing incredible work in this field for the last few years. I'm following his work avidly.

As a side note, I love the way this was presented. Seeing news in chronological order and well summarized like this really organized in my mind a lot of random pieces of news I'd heard tangentially over the months.

Personally I wish we'd get beyond these low level abstractions by now. Machine learning is so wonderfully mathematical that making abstractions from the details should be incredibly easy and powerful. I can't believe like 8 years

I don't mean this in a mean way at all but when I read this my mind mostly goes to wondering if the energy spent on marketing and building yet another product we've seen thousands of iterations of would be better spent on trying t

It's not a new point but for sure tech has ruined my attention span. I was once lucky enough to get away from major needs to use tech for a few months (which I spent reading) and it really showed me how much these things affect the bra

It's a weird phenomenon though since even though ruby on rails was readible in a small code base, it was still building on top of a ton of abstractions that hid lower detail. It makes me think that we're just failing to build clea

What's the motivation in peoples mind between using an e-bike and just using a tesla? If the argument is that the tesla is still unclean since the energy might not come from clean sources, doesn't that apply for e-bikes as well?

Really wouldn't surprise me if they figured out a way to do this in an unsupervised way though. (We might be decades from that though who knows.)

For americans this sounds like horror but for the international perspective this sounds wonderful (and a fair readjustment for work that we always felt was no different than our american counterparts). Just pointing out the semi obvious thi

I did this too for a while. It's a fun challenge for yourself and a cool way to brag to your friends. Paper is such a better interface though and real time latex takes away too much of your attention from the lecture I found in the end

To be fair I never got to use a calculator in university tests and I'm glad I learned mental math in years prior to prepare me for that. (Though admittedly that's of course a very artificially constrained school-imposed situation.

All this talk about the future is getting kinda boring at this point. I feel like it's been a good 7 years of talking about what will come in the near future and other than that near stagnation on most other fronts. (Autonomous cars,

I'm sure we can figure out something cleverer. Maybe use one of the more obscure names or a tagged phone number in some clever way.

This is what I fear is going to happen once surveillance-type robots start appearing in the streets. The narrative is that we'd somehow destroy them on sight but the truth is that that would be criminally persecuted.

I never really understood the appeal of nerding out on cryptography. As soon as you get it in your mind to do some fun innovating people tell you (correctly) to "never roll your own crypto". Unless you're super talented at ma
