Drupal is just as horrible as WP with the added bonus of being complicated. Which is why I choose WP over Drupal (when I have to make that choice).

Like other's have mentioned, this is largely for software development. There is still a ton of social signaling that a degree imparts to its owner for it to disappear from the American landscape any time soon. That said, anyone can see

The name of this is site is "Hacker News". That would necessarily imply a site that encourages people to post things that are maybe off the beaten path.

The point is that someone can inspect that code, not that everyone needs to inspect every piece of source code they use. If the source isn't available, no one can inspect it. That is qualitative different than providing the source co

I don't think the fact that you have a lot of people spending time on an interview is any sort of "payment" for the interviewee. That's an investment in the company. The interviewee gets nothing out of it (unless they ar

If you are asking someone to develop something for "a few hours" on their own time, you should be willing to pay them for it. Companies regularly pay recruiters 30% of the first year salary for candidates, companies should be will

As someone that is months away from 40, I've considered this as well. However, considering the continued lack of developer talent as well as the increasing demand for it, I'm not terribly concerned.

Stoicism and Buddhism have some interesting parallels. They are very different in techniques and belief systems, but similar outlooks.

As a small-"l" libertarian, these kinds of stories make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. In all seriousness, people willing to stand up against bureaucratic mistreatment is one of the signs of a healthy republic. I'm not sure w

OT, but on page 70 there's an ad for the Franklin Ace 1000, which was ultimately found to be infringing on Apple's copyrights (they directly copied portions of the ROM from the Apple II). It was a landmark case for computers: htt

I know this isn't reddit, but at the risk of downvoting, I had to say that this is the funniest line I've read in a long time. I literally laughed out load for a good, long time.

The major companies (Papa John's, Dominos, Pizza Hut) are exceptional at it. I've used all of their websites in the past year and have no complaints. Local pizza delivery companies vary more widely.

It would seem to me as a layman (I have a degree in CS, but my grasp of theory was always tenuous), that discussing the ability to calculate an equation that models a physical system is different than the physical system itself. The unive

That would be pretty cool. Since I have the general feeling that the developer market and the "R programmer" market are pretty different groups, I'm not sure how much uptake there would be (plus, R Studio is pretty good). But
