Hunting and gathering is fine if you have free rein of the land and live in a relatively productive area (for fruits and vegetables). From what I know of NorCal it does not naturally grow stuff you can pick and eat. Also hunting is relative

You might survive 32F but you can’t possibly make it for very long if you have to be that cold night after night.

Yeah but no one is burying the plastic, it’s too expensive. So realistically I’d much rather have the plastic breakdown so it’s not everywhere for 10k years.

The craziest thing about this guy is he spent every Maine winter over those 27 years without lighting a single fire to keep him warm because he thought it would expose him. He would just stay awake all night and start walking around when

I’m always blown away by how people like this managed to eat. I suppose you could live off bottle deposits if you only ate corn and beans. Even at five dollars a day he would’ve had to collect 50 bottles in the best case scenario.

I wish we could come up with a plastic that would biodegrade after a fixed amount of time say 200 years.

You really think so? Aren’t we at the end of Moore’s law, so I’m really doubtful that we’ll see massive leaps like that.

The sub Saharans from Comintern also fought in combat roles, what’s your point?

20 million vs a couple of thousand is not worth mentioning. At that point you should start mentioning the hundreds of sub Saharan Africans that fought with the Soviets.

There is inherent value to a large species count. Exaggerate the situation and say the only animals left in the world were dogs, cats and cows. Extrapolate that same sense of massive loss to this situation. If you don’t care then I guess th

Yes, there is a component list at the back of the book that lists everything you need. The whole book is about building the simple as possible computer while explaining each part of it. It was a fantastic experience. Pretty sure that’s the

You still can. I know I would. Even in my free time I’m always working on something, I just wish I had more time for my solo projects. Given time I’m sure atleast a small number of those would turn into profitable ventures. It’s money to li

It’s not worth it unless you truly enjoy working. I really wish AI would hurry up and get good enough to truly replace the vast majority of us at our jobs so the government would have no choice but to implement some kind of basic income.

Depends on what it is. I use DALLE3/midjourney to give me ideas for furniture pieces all the time and then build them. This is obviously not as complicated as a CAD for a building but it’s still a great starting point.

Yeah, I’m in NC. I need it for maybe one month, and only at night in a year. I also was replacing an existing gas heat system so I could reuse the underground tanks and plumbing so it made sense for me. I held off for the time being because

There’s an easier way that I almost got for my home. A hybrid system, gas powered heat when a heat pump can’t keep up (under around 25F), otherwise it’s all regular heat pump.
