My 35 year old sister found out earlier this year that she has Stage IV breast cancer (spread to one of the lymph nodes and into both of her lungs). I can't express how fortunate we've been that she has responded extremely well to tamoxifen

It's possible that some of the patents came from Fingerworks which Apple bought in 2005. Fingerworks had been doing touch based work since about 1998.

Not disagreeing that it is an area where Apple should have behaved better, but read up about what Rambus did to the JEDEC standards body for an example of really nasty behaviour.

That 20% you quote covers a wide range of programs which apply to a substantial percentage of all students not just the disabled. But why screw with the disabled and learning challenged when there is the other 79.5% of the funding you are i

FYI, this article is about 2.5 years old. Zed Shaw has in the interim released some projects under a BSD license (like Mongrel2) while other projects like Lamson (I believe) are licensed under GPLv3.

I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't sign up for any ethos and I don't like policing other people's "innocent coffee breaks" either. If we're now shunning people for not maximizing productivity, you can count me out.

I've disliked that stereotype for a while. My mother (who is 68) started off programming with punchcards when she was working on her Masters in Economics, she eventually moved into executive work but still kept up her chops with Basic and F

I was about to correct you, but, in looking over the FSF opinion on APSL 2.0, I noticed that while APSL 2.0 is considered a free software license, I had forgotten that the APSL 2.0 license is still incompatible with GPL. http://www.gnu.org

Apple sold 16.8 million Macs just this year, so at $100 million for 400 laser system, Apple could pay them all off entirely in 2011 by adding $5.95 to the cost per Mac.

Consider that a kindness from Apple. You can get two to three times as much RAM at the same price from an online reseller than you'd get buying the RAM directly from Apple.
