After reading this recent story [1] about record labels trying to kill AI-generated music, I realized that the record labels may be our best hope against the upcoming AI Apocalypse, as they'll obviously have the best technology to comb

If your comment is just saying "managers who do things to their own benefit, to the expense of their reports, are bad," then we're in agreement.

I guess you didn't read my whole comment. I'll quote the part that you didn't read: > So I wouldn't push them to go back into the office; remote work is the right thing for the team overall. By the way, I definitely d

[Disclaimer: I'm a manager.] Your theory seems to rely on a rather uncharitable set of assumptions. I wonder if an alternate explanation could be that the manager job role tends to involve a lot of talking to other people, and that the

Offering a prize could potentially result in more than the prize value ($100M) being invested into those very technologies. As an example, we can look at the Netflix Prize [1], which was only $1M. But that $1M bought them way, way more than

It's worth noting that the government surveillance secret wasn't actually kept very well, largely because of exactly the effect that Chomsky describes -- keeping all the numerous people in on the secret didn't work, and so we

For me, the "instant back button" moment was the little pop-up at the bottom of the screen that played a loud chime sound. I don't care if the article contains the cure for cancer -- the moment you get in my face like that I&

Speaking for myself, the accessibility and convenience is a huge part. Instead of lugging around a 60 pound fragile finnicky pedalboard, I just throw my Helix in a backpack and am good to go. It has way more pedals in it than I could fit on

People without perfect pitch (even non-musicians) can often hear that an equal-temperament major triad is a little bit more dissonant than a just-temperament major triad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcCkn0p7HDE . I don&#

It's confusing to me too when it's phrased that way. Stallman's original quote makes much more sense, "Think free as in free speech, not free beer." In other words, contrasting free as in "no restrictions"

It varies between no interview at all, and a full interview exactly like a new hire. Both are done. Interviews are more common these days, because if they're skipped, existing employees may resent the acquihire folks for not having to

Acquihires do often have employee upside, in the form of large stock-based compensation grants or bonus payouts, typically spread over a vesting period of several years. There's no point in the acquihire if you don't retain the em

While the "add to cart to see price" pattern may be dark, it's worth noting that the retail seller that makes you do this is probably not the party who's responsible for the pattern. It turns out that some manufacturers

Well, we saw what "figurative" talk got us at the Capitol Building on the 6th. Calling it figurative is like Alex Jones claiming to be a "performance artist," i.e. a thin attempt to disguise the reality of the statement

I've lived places that weren't dense enough for it to work. But in a fairly urban environment, provided that the item is not total crap, it tends to go fast. I have had cases where I found a taker after I left my front door to tak
