If you're mixing npm with pom files you are asking for trouble. Jenkin's shortcomings have nothing to do with npm's crappy package management. (not saying you said that, just pointing it out)

I agree with you that bash heavy complex things are best suited for something like ansible. However, deploying containers to environments like openshift and kubernetes is extremely simple with jenkins. I don't think that's compli

I feel you, but why are your jenkins pipelines so complicated? I feel like your workplace's deployable artifacts should follow a familiar pattern and there should not be much guessing/re-inventing the wheel with jenkins scripts.

   by humbleMouse 7y ago

If it takes you 100 tries for a moderately complex jenkins pipeline, you have other problems that are not jenkin's fault.

If you need software to control the heated seats in your car, I don't want that car.
8. 98.▲
   by humbleMouse 7y ago

Seems pretty ridiculous to claim software is needed for heated seats. Usually a hardware setup with a simple switch.
9. 99.▲
   by humbleMouse 7y ago

So to clarify, you dont get heated seats unless you pay 4.5k for a software upgrade?

This may be the dumbest thing to ever make it to the front page. What a pointless thing to complain about. Podcasts are not for everyone, but to be "against" them is so dumb I dont even know where to start.

I think it's great, just make sure to have plenty of cpu and ram for your elastic cluster because it uses a ton. Additionally, I suggest skipping logstash and shipping logs directly from filebeat -> elastic. Filebeat is very simpl

If your organization has a junior putting out "fires" in production after 3 weeks, a few major things are wrong. First of all, code shouldn't be "on fire" frequently in production. Especially a domain of functiona

I agree with you that it's messy and an anti-pattern to try to implement something like this in lambda.

Typescript is wonderful, especially as someone used to writing a lot of java/groovy. Typescript is like pouring cement around your javascript house of cards. It makes writing front end code painless and predictable. It also has amazin

When I first started using touchbar macbooks for dev work I literally was accedently hitting the escape "key" on the touchbar all the time. It was super annoying and I had to re-train my pinky not to hover over the touchbar. The

If people would spend 1/10th the time they spent complaining about kubernetes actually learning kubernetes, maybe more people would know kubernetes and realize its not even that difficult to administrate.

In addition to all of these good things, you can also use groovy which has a ton of shorthand syntax and makes writing code super easy. Groovy also makes writing tests short and simple. I love java and all jvm languages honestly.

You could just make a shared object module that is versioned and have all the microservices use those objects to communicate. Or you could implement avro schemas. Many ways around this issue.

You're comparing the JVM to docker containers and regular VMs? Lol. Java is a rock solid language and many languages in wide use are built on top of it. Spring releases content frequently. Nobody makes "Java ops code" - lo
