Rust is loved and has momentum. I'm not sure it's universally adopted by pragmatists, partly because it requires replacing pip, Maven, node, yum, or whatnot with cargo. Cargo is great if you're starting from nothing, but it&#

Counterpoint: if you want tools to help you edit your code, like linters that supply fixes or smarter autocomplete tools, you need algorithmic code formatting. You can't code taste into every tool that might want to help you edit your

The deprecated attribute is useless when -Werror and -Wall are both on. You can't land the attribute if any uses exist because any use is now a compiler error. You might as well just delete the entity and sort things out from there.

...except pip/npm often build C or C++ while packages install, at least in some cases. And Rust has the same issues, at least when shipping or consuming libraries with C APIs is in the picture.

Agreed. It's a cool project, but it's a compiler for a DSL that is a subset of C.

For what it's worth my bar is higher. Can we expect every teacher to design a top-tier curriculum independently? Or, in other words, do we need hundreds of thousands of curricula? Doesn't that leave a lot of by definition below

Nothing about Evolution disproves Adam and Eve. If an all powerful person is in the story, it's a theological and metaphysical question how Evolution and Creation fit together. It's also kind of a boring question because there

But Trump is still the frontrunner for the Republican nomination, and he is clearly not a small government conservative or libertarian.

I'm not sure the right wing is all that libertarian and small government these days. It all seems pretty team red versus team blue with plenty of dog whistling all around. But not many principles.

In that reality, what is the real life analog of TTY logic? What about whitespace escaping? Point being, the Unix philosophy has its own issues, especially around the foundations of how it all glues together.

I don't like blaming people for taking a chance on someone or something. Especially if the stakes are as low as a cancelled show. So I guess both Stewart and Apple get some credit there. But Apple isn't making it clear who is deci

There's no real way to measure productivity to start with. There's no logic underpinning any of this. It's all instinct and bias, and nobody want to say that out loud.

Again, the build system and compiler are often on different systems. The design has a specific drawback in that respect. Even for machine local caching, there are advantages to having the communication with the compiler be unidirectional.

Same goes for C++. And successor languages will have limited reach as long as that don't get this requirement by, for instance, exclusively servicing a language specific packaging solution.

I still think the p1689 is a more robust implementation, but I'll stand corrected on the technical details of the build2 implementation of modules. Viable designs to support header units was still up in the air until six months ago or

No. The BMI is more like an object file. It's not likely anyone would ship one. The lib is still the lib. The header files are replaced with module interfaces. It's just that those are probably going to be shipped with some parsin

There's no way build2 did exactly this back in 2021 given communication APIs for GCC just landed in its main branch a month ago. Clang and GCC, only a year ago or so. How does build2 understand module dependencies without that?

Tools like `cargo --fix` do exist. Such as clang-tidy. They have to be more opinionated to be viable for things like this, but if you're the is passionate about it, try starting a project like that.
