Please consider this. - In software engineering it is notoriously difficult to distinguish between capable and incapable companies/individuals. You basically need a very capable person to make the evaluation. But who chooses the evalua

Sadly. It doesn't seem to be a real Bill Gates quote. https://quoteinvestigator.com/2014/02/26/lazy-job/ But you can quote Larry Wall on the three virtues of a programmer. http://threevir

I think this is pretty much it. You can have one microservice per team. Then you can do whatever you want in terms of tools, languages, deployment workflows, etc. As long as you honor your API contracts.

But how big are your microservices ? How many did you build ? A monolith that has hundreds of commits is very worth separating it. But do you break it on 10, 100, 1000 microservices ? We have a case where we have 20 people managing 40 micro

I totally agree. Mostly we are doing microservices the wrong way. We are not drawing the boundaries correctly, they are too small, they have too many interdependencies, they don't really encapsulate the data, and you end up with many

I don't agree with you but I think these are valid and important questions that need to be discussed. It shouldn't be downvoted like that.

It sounds like AMA is working against the interest of Doctors. Sure they make more money, but they have a shitty quality of life.

In addition, there is a ton of knowledge and social capital that you get from your family. Case in point, Bill Gates mom when he was a young man negotiating contracts with giant IBM.

I would look at three things. - Do you have autonomy in your job ? You need to be able to do your job without having to ask for permission every five minutes. You should also have some freedom on how to do it. - Do you feel you are getting

The dating dynamic changed too. As a man, you will be able to date if you are in the top 20% on height and general attractiveness. It wasn't always like that. In the recent past, you could have a girlfriend if you were average good lo

As a technical person, you have actual work to do, and you have to keep your skills current, and then you have to go to all the meetings and provide info for the non-techs. They on the other hand, have all their time to think and scheme on

Nice. But optimistic as it assume you will get to live to 90. I think there are actuarial tables where you can get an estimate based on your age. Or just mark ~75 as expected and use a different color for extra time beyond the expected.

It seems to me that there was a time that a lot of the Software Engineering work was contributed by Universities. Operating Systems, Databases, Compilers, Networks, etc. Examples that come to my mind are UCSD Pascal, Unix Berkley, Ingre

It is not Java. It is how people over engineer enterprise applications. - Annotations are overused. - Design patterns are overused. - Too many layers, too many abstractions. - Using properties where a constants would be enough. - Using conc

Annotations are frequently abused. They are useful in some cases but in other cases it would be easier to just call a function. It is more transparent and easy to understand, you don't have to figure out how the magic works when somet

Vaqueros, Gauchos and Llaneros(Venezuela) probably have the same origin in horse riding country side people on the Iberian Península. But I doubt the Gauchos influenced the Cowboys since they are far, far away.
