Sounds like the Neo-Futurists' pricing scheme: """Tickets are $9 + the roll of a single six-sided die ($10 - $15, depending on your luck!)""" http://www.neofuturists.org/index.php?option=com_content&...

Get a kid, particularly the infant kind. They'll wake up at 5am without fail everyday for the first several years and are impossible to ignore when they're awake. When they start sleeping in late, get a another one.

I can't believe no one's mentioned Back to the Future! Favorite scene: opening scene with the robotic arm automation Favorite quote: "You'll have to forgive the crudeness of this model, I didn't have time to paint it or build it to scale."

Agreed about angel/vc, but not legal/accounting (Chicago is a legal and accounting hub!). To compensate for being in Chicago, you do have to be creative finding VCs and angels. I'm doing a startup here in Chicago anyway. But I compensate fo

I liked Palo Alto enough when I lived out there (well, technically right next door in Mountain View), but I could never justify paying a mortgage out there -- unless I was very, very rich (which I'm not--- yet). I moved back to Chicago we

You're in a rut, but not a hole. You'll be okay! :-) First step... start looking for a new job! Second step, look for jobs that require SAP experience, but at employers that will give you room to grow as a developer beyond a strict SAP admi

I occasionally flirt with this idea, too. If I had the time... I would start with Chumby for the hardware design. I believe it is open source, though you have to agree to contribute back any changes/improvements to the Chumby folks. For the

That's my dream - robot building. I look forward to the day that "robot startups" are as trendy and commonplace as "web startups". :-/

(I just updated my HN profile with my contact info... Let's meet at the Buzz sometime!) Hmm... I think I was trying some wacky ports like "4444" (Selenium) and 5901 ('raw' VNC). I also use a non-standard SSH port (not port 22) for my remote

Wow... so did I (another Oak Parker!)... but OPPL blocks all outbound ports except 80 and 443. So I couldn't do alot (like SSH admin of remote servers). However, I did create an EC2 instance once where SSH was running on port 80 -- and that

http://www.xs4all.nl/~peterned/3d/static/js/Canvas3D.js It's JavaScript. View Source is your friend. Now what I don't see is any mention of a license. In that respect, yes, I agree, I hope they release this under an open-source license.

Agreed. White does not travel well. I've learned there's a reason most travel gear is sold in black -- it hides the dirt and scratches! To keep my white MacBook looking clean, I bought a ProTouch keyboard cover from iSkin, and a "PalmGuard"

For me, it's hacking open-source hardware -- specifically, creating small gadgets based on the Arduino platform. After several days of coding, it's nice to switch gears and pick up a soldering gun. There's something magical about a blinking

Instead of creating a completely new distro, I'd like to see effort put into ".deb"s or ".rpm"s for common configurations. Now that would be awesome.
