Yeah, grid beam is (alas) a highly underrated tech. I've also created my own version recently -- a Lego Technic compatible version I'm calling "bitbeam" - bitbeam.org. Don't know where it'll go, but it sure is fun!

I recently got into building with grid beam. (Found out about it at a Maker Faire.) Consider grid beam an open source version of Erector Sets or a life-size Lego Technic. Building your own standing desk out of grid beam would be the super c

I'm surprised the Maverick wasn't mentioned yet in the comments here. It looks far more fun and durable than the other flying car designs out there: http://mavericklsa.com/

I'm quoted in the story. I checked guidelines before posting. ("If they'd cover it on TV news, it's probably off-topic.") Yeah, although this is a link to a TV news story, it's hacker related. I'm amazed by the scope of the outage. The "gli

Wow, I never heard of EagleMode before. I'm sad it's not more well known. That's the most complete ZUI for an OS I've seen.

I prototyped something vaguely similar in Python, using the 3d Visual library. I would love to port this to CoffeeScript/JS + Canvas. The dream is to have zoomable user interface (like Google Earth) where you can zoom in and view one file,

Sadly, it's not new. I first heard people selling enterprise software (read: SAP, Oracle, etc.) use "spend" instead of "spending" over 10 years ago. It still drives me crazy to hear it today. When they say "spend"... I keep screaming in my

All I want to do is live in a future where robots do all the work, and I get to build and program the robots... But with that said, it's going to be a long time before robots can do all the things Mike's grandfather could do. (Installing el

Same here. I was a "top of noon" riser for years, then I got married and had a kid... Now my two boys are 5 and 7, they both wake up reliably between 5 and 6am everyday. Also, relatedly, though, they go to sleep at 7pm. To deal with such an

2000-2010 was all about "lean"? Huh? What about the "Web 2.0" bubble that started with the coining of the word "AJAX" programming in early 2005, and ended with the "R.I.P. Good Times" Sequoia presentation in late 2008? Lots of people built
