I am not suggesting the the law is black and white. Nor am I saying that there is anything codified as law that would require Google to do anything so specific as moth ball reader. The decision to mothball reader (rightly or wrongly) was cl

You are right I suppose - perhaps then my analogy would be better suited to describing RSS as a niche technology. The issue is that niche technologies work in conjunction with a paid business model. Google's core business model is that of m

The Google Reader furore reached embarrassing levels of absurdity days ago. I have attempted many times to formulate my feelings on the matter into words (for the sake of balance if nothing else) so here goes nothing: The rage about the dea

Point of order: the hypothetical HD-DVD player to which @msabalau refers is not a standard DVD player, as you seem to have assumed. HD-DVD was a format iteration meant to compete with Blu-ray. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_DVD

You talk like its a person - it's a damned service ... Plus my point was that the demise of Reader had nothing to do with the OP, and that its continued discussion in any post containing the letter G was pathetic, detracting from more inter

Ugh - people should just LET READER GO. Here we have what looks like a cool, well documented, API to a powerful service supported by a major company and instead of talking about the cool things we could build with it we seem to be indulging

This comment probably won't go down well considering the audience ... but here goes: Yes the internet is a surveillance state ... and that is terrible ... except ... except ... is it? My long held belief is that in an age where even the mos

This is - quite simply - one of the coolest things I have seen in a while. "In game" tutorials are such a fantastic way of demonstrating functionality in that sector - why shouldn't websites be the same ?

Especially perhaps, as (detailed in my most recent comment below) the degree I would be coming out with ( MComp ) is instead of my Bsc rather than as well as it. Effectively the course content is the same as the Bsc course for the first 3 y

Thanks for coming back and helping me out! I think the difficulty I am having is that despite anecdotal evidence of people doing fine without it (which is fantastic) people continue to underscore the fact that an advanced degree is a plus f

The Degree is technically an MComp not an MSc - and I understand that Newcastle is not the highest ranked University (it seems to sit around 13th for Computer Science) but financially it is not viable for me to switch to another University

I'm not looking to make inroads into academia - I had considered it for a while but I don't think I could handle more long term exposure to academics. Many of them (at least the ones at my university) operate completely by their own rules -

I understand that - but you have to start somewhere. Its a catch 22 situation if you can't get the job without experience and can't the experience without the job.

Right - but would my employability be such that I could get a job where I might gain that information? I've been given the impression by a few employers that unless you have a lot of experience then a bachelors degree isn't sufficient for a

Thanks - "Deeper not wider" is a nice expression for a feature of my current course that I find frustrating. Most of my in depth knowledge is garnered from personal side projects of interest - and only rarely even has its roots in something
