Yeah to be fair I haven’t been to the US for about 5 years so that’s probably well out of date on car rentals.

I’m actually from the UK myself. So I picked random Googled US min wage and assumed the poor driver would have to beg for tips and go bankrupt if he was sick.

I could just hire someone to drive for $7.25/hr or rent a whole car for $24 a day. Nope.

I do this. It works. I have a stuffed parrot though. And everyone thinks I’m nuts but I don’t care :)

From experience of both, the smouldering remains seems to win out by a fair margin. The aggregator may have some smoke signals in it but that’s about it. Most of the issues I’ve dealt with shaft the network before the filesystem.

Key issues for me were machine-id related and journal corruption. Also journalctl dumping core after a recovery-mode boot. That left us with no tools to deal with a compressed journal and no strace to find out what it was doing. I actually

Yes 100% agree with this and we do that but there’s normally a few seconds window between something going snap and being flushed to the upstream log aggregator. At which point the smouldering remains of your node or container are fairly imp

They’re really nice until everything on the node is completely broken. Then they are a massive obstruction to access and understanding what went wrong due to the opaqueness. It’s best to do some drills on a purposely broken system to gain s

I'm actually here because my colleagues keep coming up with things posted here and on other sources and I was intrigued as to the consensus behind them. I'm pleasantly surprised to read that there is a nice critical balance of dis

It’s really not. SME branch office is dead easy. Multinational corporations virtually impossible. In the cloud you can stop your whole VM estate, nuke roles and access and pull an audit trail and access logs for everything in a few minutes.

Yeah I’m using the same machine. It depends what you do. I haven’t hit a memory pressure warning yet. 99% of what I’m doing is either on remote systems or in vim and safari. My MacBook is a futuristic portable vt terminal and iPod and 8gb i

That's kind of funny. Back in the early 00's I built a big perl "engine" for an internal LOB platform which roughly looked like your product. The business built their apps on it. But neither me or the business saw the va

You might be on to something there. Small sample here but most of my colleagues over the years had sennheiser headphones of some sort. Occasionally they’d step out to another brand and come back again. I’ve still got some HD25’s knocking ar

The other way round is the time I left a negative review for a phone case. I was emailed every day automatically by the seller directly to my email from theirs to retract my negative review. I asked them to stop. They didn’t. I reported thi

Agree with this entirely. So much is never said or seen on commercial media. It’s easy it’s shrug off a censored report and carry on with your day. However the comments section was nasty. There are a lot of really not very right people out

Your blog post was a great read. Completely agree. I’ve seen so much stuff turn to excrement the moment FP is applied. I’m writing a complex aggregator in go and the abstraction is buffered channels. There is no map or filter in sight. It i

Screens are not at all durable. Surface has to be pliable for obvious reasons which makes it susceptible to scratching. Even a finger nail run down the screen can permanently mark it if the galaxy fold is anything to go by. I’m not quite su
