I think some of the stuff I’ve seen was soldered together with Jesus’ soldering iron or bashed together with rocks. I’m surprised the author found enough bits to make a good SB-101. I built a fully stacked Elecraft K2 to perfection a number

I think that’s survivor bias. A big chunk of stuff barely worked and didn’t last as long. I had a couple of old and tektronix scopes which are amazingly reliable after 50 years according to the collectors. Nope! Yours are the exceptional on

Just a heads up here: iCloud / OneDrive / Google Drive / DropBox are not a backup solution despite the vendors promoting it. They are there only for convenience. I have experienced file loss on OneDrive. I am now using iClo

It has only just been rolled out. I think it’s still early days. I’m using it for my domain fine but that has only two users on it.

They do die horrible deaths. Half the Heathkit stuff I have picked up over the years has been utterly irrecoverably buggered by the moron who assembled it to start with or someone who modified it later. Amateur radio kit is the worst variet

Happy I live in the UK when I see things like this posted. I was offered a job years ago in the US which I declined and would never want to be held to ransom over my health potentially.

Not much of my life is spent at work. I spent the last 10 years optimising the ROI from work down to a suitable compromise of time vs money.

Spot on. Another relative point to note is that I learned pride should be ranked well below dignity.

I was at that sort of company, finally. They got bought out. It changed. I’m staying for the retainer at the moment.

Completely agree with this. Customers always seemed to want to pay me fixed amounts for jobs and be absolutely no good at estimating them. I got paid 28 days contract fees for a job that took 3 hours once. They paid up and asked me to not

Don’t sweat it; it might be healthy. I have made it a feature of my life that I don’t actually care about work and will not be changing it. It turned out that I’d spent at least 20 years being tricked into caring for things which ultimately

A side effect of working for asshole companies like that for years is I’ve slowly developed a zero fucks attitude and an immunity to threats and carrots dangled in front of me. I can sit there as a project is falling over the edge of a clif

Yeah seen that too. Six years here and I’m walking and running 50k a week without a problem. More energy than I’ve ever had. I actually just ate home made vegetable paella and chocolate cake for dinner.

Completely agree with this. I find it really annoying when friends switch over and then their diet becomes McPlants, pizzas and ready meals with meat substitutes in them and any mention of something new ends up with a shrivelled up face. Ph

Agree with this. I suspect someone will release an actually affordable (comparable to ICE up front and ownership costs), safe, basic EV with decent range and standard car features which has better quality and less hype around it and Tesla w

Probably the one that attempting to process an unconstrained system in a constrained model, regardless of the method, always results in unhandled edge cases. Apply tons of metal and fragile entities made of meat to the problem and someone’s

I think it is 100% fraudulent to charge for the FSD option that isn’t enabled at delivery of the vehicle. Edit: to qualify this my father paid over £5000 for it three years ago.

I tried Linux on a fairly hefty Ryzen rig recently and it was the usual shit show. HiDPI doesn’t even work properly with wayland yet. My next $4k rig is going to be an iMac. Typing this on my iPad in a hotel. That’s the life.

My father has a 2019 P100D model S. I’ve driven it a few times. It feels like you’re driving a cross between a budget Android tablet and a somewhat skittish horse with a rocket engine up its ass. What could possibly go wrong? On the last tw

Please don’t insult CFML by comparing it to something that puts the user at risk and crashes every five minutes ;)
