I would appreciate if you also send a PR to address these issues, since clearly you know more about benchmarking than me. Contributing to open source project is good, right? BTW, Lucene is an open source project, Datalevin is also an open s

Send a PR with Lucene properly used. It's an open source project, and I said I welcome any contribution in the article. Please do.

Correct. That is also what all search engines will currently do.

Send a PR if you feel the benchmark can be improved. I will be happy to merge it and rerun the benchmark.

The industry has not "chosen" to not do what T-Wand does, the industry did not have that option because T-Wand just comes out. Now with T-Wand, the industry has that choice to make. It is easy to implement T-Wand in the existing L

I would appreciate people who claims that "the author does not know Lucene enough" to send a Pull Request, where Lucene is configured to do the same thing that T-Wand does, that is to guarantee documents containing more query term

Then it is actually far worse than what I guessed. You know next to nothing about Clojure, but somehow feel that you are qualified to have an opinion about it. That doesn't look good, does it?

I don't know about REBOL, but I did program TCL extensively in my graduate school years. I agree TCL has a lot of similarity in term of treating code as data like in Lisp, but I do not think it has such an emphasis on data oriented pro

Nobody said you "need" REPL. Doing REPL driven programming is just more productive, hence it is considered the right way in the Clojure community. Heck, you don't even "need" any higher level languages, you can writ

Author here. I started programming in 80s (yes I am old), so I probably know more languages than people who are younger than me. I also taught programming in universities in my previous life as a professor. Like I said in my article, I won&

It depends on what you mean by "worthing" it. To become a better programmer? Definitely worth it to know Clojure, as it does provide a new programming style that has inspired some other ecosystems. To find a job? Probably not. Clo

You are contradicting what your parent post is saying and agreeing with the OP. So you agree that Clojure is the most data-oriented programming language, but you feel like it is too extreme?

If you write your code the correct way, there wouldn't be any states in your namespaces for you to keep track in your head. That only happens if your code is full of `(def some-state (atom {}))` or something like that. You are basicall

As a programmer with decades of experience, it took me half a year to get Clojure, and I had to unlearn a lot. Reading books is not enough, one has to do programming exercises with the language. So I agree that it is harder for experienced

Yes, you can, if the new hire is fresh from school and is smart. In my startup, our onboarding time is two weeks. I would say nine out of ten fresh graduates we hired picked up Clojure and were able to do something useful after two weeks. B

I think the ratio of people using functional language that work on "hard" problems should be a lot higher than the mainstream language users. From my personal experience, before I become a Clojure user, I wouldn't dare to wri

Cutting edge CS papers are written by Ph.D students who have not had any industrial experience yet. Of course, the code they wrote for those papers would certainly use languages that they learned in school, which would be C/C++/Ja

People survived fine without automobile. Taking away their automobiles is “devastating” seems rather hyperbolic. There are multiple alternatives to automobiles, such as bicycles. “Inconvenience” would be a better term.

FYI, Datalevin has faster queries than Datascript, for Datalevin has given up "database as a value" doctrine that both Datomic and Datascript share, so Datalevin can cache aggressively to achieve better performance.

Datalevin may have what you like https://github.com/juji-io/datalevin , has no history, no "database as a value" etc, and focus on performance instead.

I am confused. If I remember correctly, go's runtime uses a thread pool as well. It's not like go somehow invented a runtime that does not rely on OS threads. So in the end of the day, what difference does it make? If you ask me,
