Metaphor isn't the map either, but it works. If you read the article a bit more closely, you would read that the problem is to find a bit of traction on students who are primed to walk away. As much as I despise the little rodent, if Mickey

Excellent effort, as elegant as the language. Page on top should be card stock. Q&D method is to print all as instructed then take pile to Kinko's. The have both coil binding, folders and saddle style staplers. Run you about 5 bucks. So

Biased but interesting. Seems to me that there are only two examples of 'strange' here the 'while(<>)' and the regex. Interesting thing about regex---python itself uses perl compatible regex, so throw that item on the trash heap. As

Sparklines are good. The Book the text came from is better. The three previous books and "Beautiful Evidence" stand next to Knuth in my estimation. For Perl fans out there check out CD-Graph-Sparklines on CPAN.

Not a new idea-- Griswold wrote Snobol as a set of 360 macros.

So did he spell Knuth wrong as a typo or through ignorance? Or is this some subtle insult? Doesn't seem to thing Perl qualifies as useful either...Oh well, one less opinion to worry about.

From the posts thus far, it's good to see the appreciation of this man. Not many of my computer books are as well-worn as my set of 'The Art'. His contribution of TeX alone would have assured his stature; just another side effect the good d

I just did a little wandering around the available documentation on PLT-Scheme and noticed that large pieces are untouched since 2004. Other large pieces seem to be missing. Seems like an un-propitious start for 4.0! Or perhaps this is what
