DNSSEC has a 1024-bit RSA root after Web PKI ( at least Mozilla-flavored) no longer did. Are the TLDs audited like CAs? Having to change the domain name to evade the TLDs bad security practices is more disruptive than switching CAs.

Classic Mac OS seems to be the system from that era that's no longer available. There's still Amiga systems on the market. RISC OS is available for Raspberry Pi. DOS lives on in the form of FreeDOS. And now there are two OS/2

Is disabling always possible? I don’t find UI to disable in recent Lenovo ThinkStation BIOS even though I’ve seen such option previously in ThinkPad BIOS.

It continues to puzzle me when people think of Rust's syntax as particularly exotic. It's much closer to C/Java/JavaScript than e.g. Python or Bash are. Rust still has curly braces for blocks, uses ampersand and asterisk

This is cool, though I was a bit disappointed to notice the part about no support for CJK characters after trying to draw one and not having it recognized. It seems to me that looking up Unihan ideographs is an area where a tool like this c

How does Ada address the problems that Rust's borrow checker addresses? Use-after-free in particular. As for not being alternatives, how do they mix in the same project? Does Ada have C-compatible FFI that lets both Ada and Rust see ea

Is HTML Tidy spec-compliant these days? It predates the spec. A cursory look at its GitHub repo doesn’t convince me of it now being spec-compliant. E.g. lexer.c doesn’t have indications of being based on the tokenization section of the spec

This doesn't appear to use a spec-compliant HTML parser as the first step of the processing. Any tool of this nature created this day and age really should.

Rust is better than C++ at “if it compiles, it works” and has a great package manager, so as far as the topics highlighted here go, Rust seems to be the best of both worlds.

At what point will all big-endian usage be just developers testing big-endian with no users to use the results, and at what point shall we stop even testing? (Yesterday, I finally got around to making encoding_rs work on 64-bit big-endian s

Gecko had that but migrated to neighbor pointers, so that's a data point of one real engine moving from a child array to neighbor pointers.

The “compliant solution” example for setlocale() is thread-unsafe, AFAICT. (I’m not aware of a safe solution other than “don’t use the text processing part of the C standard library, because its design is too wrong”.)

Bad faith is giving someone else seemingly open code that does something you hold a patent to and then enforcing the patent agsinst the recipient. The explicit patent language in Apache License 2.0 is a good thing.
