To the point of having something similar to defer in C. Gnu C has attribute cleanup[1][2] which is supported by both GCC and Clang. Sure its not portable in the strictest sense but these two compilers offer wide enough support that may be s

the market will necessarily sort itself out here. sad but true. if the workers are paid less, they will find employment elsewhere, the company will suffer (as they rightfully should). Instacart has 1.9b in funding, if they are stealing from

PM for gRPC here - this looks great! Thank you for creating it. I'll definitely be pointing folks to it. I saw that there is support for reflection and TLS planned already. Are there plans to support record/replay of a sequence?

PM for gRPC here. Thank you for writing this up! Do you folks secure inter service RPCs in some way? eg mTLS? How do you see your stack evolving over time?

disclaimer: I work for the gRPC team. gRPC lets you use other data exchange formats or IDLs as well, such as flatbuffers. However, the protobuf codegen experience we have spent most of the time and energy on. I see two sides to this - on on

gRPC needs access HTTP/2 trailers, which is not supported in browsers today. This necessitates translation in a proxy of some form. It is possible to support in-process or local proxies, but instead starting with this in n languages, w

Autonomy is harder and harder to get at larger corporations and play a big role in self identifying work as satisfying or valuable. Even if you manage to get it, it can be taken away by an outsider in a large corp at any point. Startups are

There can be an M:N mapping - An update queue can be consumed by a fixed pool of workers that can lock a file and commit the update. This is crude but wont explode the number of workers.. if you have a hashing scheme for the worker pool and

The part I did not get is why a worker was holding on to other files when it was working on a single doc. "Throwing more hardware at the problem wouldn’t have solved this issue because a single slow operation would still lock up the wo

The issue was that this work was initially put on hold for a while. When we revived it, we took the time to listen to feedback from early adopters and published the code out. Your point on 'hidden development' is well taken. It&#x

We put in a lot of work to make gRPC work well with python 3.5, so give it a try if possible. disclaimer: I work on gRPC.
