the lack of S-expressions prevents me from trying out other C-like-syntax FP languages (except js and python which i knew before lisp) i tried erlang, but really, my mind prefers thinking in lisp :( do i miss a lot not learning other FPs?

u may want to use regex to reduce / eliminate if checkings i use newlisp, this is the code: (set 'urls '( " http://motors.shop.ebay.com/Parts-Accessories_Car-Truck-Part... " " http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FACTORY-15-Mercedes-E320-300E...

yes, i use vim and vi text editors for lisp paren matching is essential it's not like i'm advocating writing code using cli or sed

i'm pointing to something deeper, because of high level abstractions, FP codes tend to be short -> can fit in one head; thus, IDE is less essential no amount of popularity can change that

vim has it too, powerful indeed select the block use v or ^v and navigate with hjkl, do commands like c,d replace string in text selection -> v (or ^v) + hjkl + :s/old/new comment a block of code (5 lines) with # -> 0 + ^v + 5j + I

from my observations, OOP style programmer tends to rely most on IDE while FP style the least that might reflect the relative dumbness of the two

the trend i see is that the most ambitious people do startup and degree(s) matter less as time goes maybe a quantitative measure like Z = asset_from_work_now / cost_before_work_then where cost_before_work_then include tuition, rent, etc ...

maybe java code that has dozens of namespaces, thousands of classes & objects, hundreds of methods needs an ide badly lisp code written as fp doesn't require all those, so it fits the programmer's head better

slightly off topic but still on broken windows theory do you normally clean up your code 'aesthetic' ? like the commented: old code (to make it unactive) -> ;(define bla) return value -> ;returns '(1 2 3) debugging print statements

maybe a better test is whether you'll do it for free (no incentives, moral/material/etc) just for the fun of it to me, hacking > sales (no, charity/non-profit/giving away money doesn't count -> there's moral incentive there)

don't confuse college 'experience' with freedom, they're not the same nothing gives better track record than startup (even failed ones) ... don't confuse it with the college-track-record ... they are not the same college rank is a gamed met

kaizen at code level, i try to eliminate as many as temp vars as possible by using closure, map, macro etc it's because i'm dumb, my brain doesn't have much STM capacity (that's why i don't use OOP)

"192.168.0.* and the switch will give off something like 192.168.1. ." i think you mean wired-router instead of switch, because afaik switch & hub don't assign ips but if u use switch, then the workstations & int_serv are 192.168.0.
