In principle consoles are not different, and lawyers looking at Apple/Google stores are also wondering what impact would a ruling in this field have on consoles as well. I think nobody goes after consoles for now because there is no bi

We had that with Google basically killing the RSS reader market, and it looks painfully hard to have it back to anything relevant, so this is a pretty bad scenario. Now I don’t think VSCode will kill its competitor, it’s not that good IMO.

VSCode is an alternative to Atom, Textmate and Sublime Text. I’d see Intelij more into the kitchen sink included heavy weight IDE. I’ll agree with you paying IDE could get more love, but each of these apps have specific strength and weaknes

While at the start it was just a synching folder, nowadays dropbox’s value proposition is: - having a client in any mildly popular operating systems. - having a fast and simple file sharing mechanism with co-workers/clients - having hi

It goes both ways, something too cheap will also get you no sympathy when it ends up being fake or a knockoff. On a moral standpoint I think it evens out.

The word is pejorative because it’s a bloody move. But I think when people compare colonialism to nazis, they should really separate the economic/political/military move of taking over another country, and what happened from there

What would be your preferred term ? To put things in perspective, Australia or Hong Kong for instance were colonies that overall benefited from the relation with England, so I don't really get the parallel you draw with nazism.

It is bike-shedding in a way, but I think it’s also a direction PHP is taking (becoming more strict, more rigid, less “hacky”). Switching to Postgres follows the same philosophy I think. Migrating existing services is usually a stupid thing

TBF it costs licensing money, like twice as much. Yes, I know, it could be chalked up as cost of doing business, I’m just saying it’s a different question than just choosing between free linux distros for a VM.

For anyone curious like me, the standard editions are 139~199$ for the license, 501~6155$ for the server editions. So the price to not get ads every update is 300$ I guess.

The purpose of the tax is to recover the external cost of flying. Ideally there are alternatives to flying, but it's not a requirement: as long as flying has an environmental price, recovering it through tax is a decent logic. We can d
