It probably includes 37% self-obsessed asses that think it's rude to wake them up to go to the bathroom. You agreed to get into a tin can with reclining seats and bathrooms. Deal with it.

That's just a storage enclosure. You'd need a separate server with SAS connectivity to use that. It still may be worth it $$/Gb wise depending on cost.

BMW build is ~2-3 weeks in Germany. ~1.5months to drive it off US dealer. AFAIK BMW options are very similar across countries.

Is there any indication that it is? From WAF doc: "AWS WAF is a web application firewall that lets you monitor the HTTP and HTTPS requests that are forwarded to Amazon CloudFront and lets you control access to your content. Based on co

Looks like this should have really been Cloudfront feature instead of it's own service. It only works with Cloudfront after all. Is that so it does not appear like a "price increase of Cloudfront"?

My biggest gripe with snapshots is there is no actual way to see how much each snapshot consumes in S3. There is no Cloudwatch metric or any other way to see per snapshot or even per volume. Sure, there is a billing per region but that'

Note that since linux 3.8 [1] ext4 can embed small files into inodes thus using less space and allow faster reads. Using that feature and adjusting inode size you can manipulate which file sizes are inlined. [1] http://kernelnewb

That really depends on a type of workloads and requirements you have. But basically you (your team) have to be smart about how AWS or any other cloud provider is used. No cloud buzzword alone will help you avoid cost, availability issues

ELB isn't magic either. You have to CNAME to it (i.e. mandatory AWS lookup) or use R53. Combine that with ELB slow on-ramp issues on load spikes and the fact that you pay per Gb of traffic passing through and I don't see a benefit

I'd challenge ELB usage in such configuration. R53 should be enough.

Sure, if all you need is block or object storage there are many alternatives. But if you need NAS which satisfies basic requirements (performant, NFS, HA, snapshots, writable snapshots) it's hard to find better than Netapp. All I'

For comparison, keep in mind that EBS is $0.10/Gb per provisioned storage, which is often over-provisioned. Versus EFS $0.30/Gb per utilized storage.

Since it's using FUSE, it would be nice if it had lazy initial syncing. I.e. on empty filesystem slave it would serve/sync accessed files even if they are not synced yet. That's at least until full sync is completed. Millions
