This is data theft and there should be criminal charges against Microsoft for this nonsense.

OneDrive turns itself on after an update so what you think is local data can easily become cloud data. Then while you're not paying attention to a long running system they quietly delete it. Then folks like you come out of the woodwork

He's right. I've had this garbage turns itself on then steal files into the cloud. When you disconnect it your files are suddenly gone and you have no idea why. There's a reason I daily drive Linux.

The first time I heard the name Django was like 15 years ago in college so I'm sure I've used it by hosting some project for one reason or another over the years. Python is just not my go to. Also I maintain my own framework in PH

It uses a DTO style mapping system and central factory EntityManager making unit testing a breeze. Model definitions let you map database primitives directly from the models. It will automagically build you the table on first use and it

Some of us have been working with php for 22 years at this point and frankly I think Doctrine is the best ORM period.

Me too but my job is easier since I can target a specific version of ubuntu so I'm making debs and I don't have that problem. I have recently been working on a C11 GTK+ based task manager where I run into this. https://

The tray icon dock/panel in KDE is fully removable. You can just delete it. So the opposite of that is also a thing. No one is forcing you to always have a visual presence of a program. Even Windows let's you hide tray icons forev

Yes. Exactly. This is not a reflection of where I am now in any way shape or form. Just my observation of previous places I've worked.

All I'm saying is a program isn't VHS. It's a VHS tape. At that point it's largely philosophy. Can you reconstruct a VHS format from a VHS tape? Sure.

It's cause IT never has to live with the consequences of their decisions. Who cares if the other department keeps bleeding talent because you twisted the knobs so hard no one wants to work in your system?

You compile for the lowest possible Linux kernel and bundle your libs. Don't use container formats for stuff like this. tar.gz with an installer script is king. I dunno why this is always so difficult.

Code is not a spec. It's an instruction set. It can be a spec if you try hard but that's not an inherent property of code. For example you can write code to be a compiler..that makes it a spec. But hello world is not a spec. As fo

There's a lot of assumptions in here and reductivism of the paid plans to just the models. If that's your idea of how you want to use the API sure that's a reasonable mental financial model but if you want automatic integrati

I saw that blog post about running local models on a Xeon based server so I benchmarked a bunch of local models on it. The server is dual Xeons with 256 GB of DDR4 and I found it capable of running some things locally. It's slow but st

I can use a local model to build a restaurant website. The model generates code fast enough that even my 10 year old server can generate all the code needed in about an hour. It will use about 50 cents of electricity and be better than 90%

My argument is our basic NHS level care costs us less labor to reach and that the rest of that spend is a luxury on nicer facilities, equipment, rooms, food, nurses and other personal which we are happy to spend because it's a luxury w

If my salary is 150k and I spend 5k that's 3.3%. If my salary is 60k that same 5k is 8.3%. So when I am talking about "cost" I mean hours of labor. It costs Americans fewer hours of labor to pay for their healthcare. This is
