If I were looking for a job, I would really only consider a 10+ hour "take-home" interview if I already had extensive dialog with the employer, met their team, and determined proper fit given my background. I also don't know

I recently interviewed at a medium-sized tech company in Palo Alto that only had recent graduates on my interview schedule. I really don't know if I could have expected them to ask questions other than standard CS / data structure

Why have such a narrow view? Have you considered that 99% of NSA employees might be just like you and me, have absolutely no malicious intent, and have absolutely no knowledge or understanding of the programs the NSA is reported to practice

Most metropolitan areas are like that. I just did the opposite; I moved from metro DC in Maryland to a smaller city in California, and have rarely felt more welcomed. As with everything, it's what you make of it.
