A valedictorian from an impoverished community has the same merit as one from a wealthy school (on average). Think about that and the solution seems obvious.

There are some additional assumptions you need. First that people are transparent. Second, that they are honest. Third that they are consistent. So, while voting in isolation has a cost — wasted votes — so does coordinated voting — misinfor

But what if most people like it? I have to say I think it makes a lot of sense. If a high number of people I follow like something, you might want to show it to me too.

Would it be legal for the startup to take a loan of $800k and just pay off the remaining balance? Then EC gets their 5x, and you keep your equity? (Probably the new investors would see the advantage of this)

I was thinking that model upgrades have a smaller profit potential because there is a possibility of a consumer switching to the newer model. You think that effect, if it is present, is not worth thinking about?

How do you differentiate discontinued product versus ones that are upgraded to a different model?

Yeah, I feel like this model is a form of private taxes that is more ripe for abuse. Just do it bigger and more efficient (and with transparency and oversight) with public education.

Unless I misunderstand something, "a billion times 100 nanometers" would be 100 meter crystals (!) ?

At first, the whole interface was failing to load. There was a 500 error message and a monkey with a wrench.

The "s" page had a bunch of month-old stuff. The "z" page was more recent news. I just rechecked and it's mostly the same way (though we're already in a different news cycle). When I check previously, 4 out

What purpose does HN serve when we already have reddit? Replicated work! The tricky thing about naysaying technology is that naysayers are almost always correct . This doesn't mean that they have useful information (you could refer

Pretty cool. I tried bestbuy but it gives a broken image. Not sure if you do any scraping but bestbuy tries to prohibit it.

Can someone explain why the going rate for website testing is $120/hr? Some sort of bubble?

Seems a cool concept. UI is fine. I think you'd get more interest if you could seed it with fake data for the sake of demo'ing it. Like a proof of concept: "this is what it could be". Just my $0.02.

I can't access the website because it's using HSTS and my browser says their certificate is invalid. There is no option to bypass the browser security warning. I'm at a public library. Anyone know what's going on?
