I've heard "it's not a database" multiple times, in reference to whatever custom DB our team inherited. Terrifying.

Why "unless" and not "especially when"? :)

Yep, abstracting away SQL is a common and very costly mistake. The article is about more general system design, otherwise I would have expected to see that in the list.

I've yet to see a DSL work great. Every single time, I'm asking "why isn't this just Python (or some other lang)" especially the times when it's some jacked up variant of Python.

Not sure if it's age, but whenever I see one now, it looks dirty. Maybe it picks up dirt a lot, or owners are afraid to wash them, I dunno.

Nah, it's objectively not good-looking, and in a few years it'll be more obvious. There are probably more than 0 people who still genuinely think the Pontiac Aztek looks good, and they're wrong.

Recall means safety issue, which is necessarily bad. It's nice that they can fix these things over the air, but there was still some elevated risk before they caught it. Despite this, seems like at least the regular Teslas are among th

I had the issue with people not wanting to hang out after work, but it wasn't due to commute distance.

Those are a couple of differences, I've never tried in a German car and typically use either the built-in Music app or sometimes in-browser YouTube.

Edge was able to fork Chromium without paying Google for it. It's so different from the old IE dominance.

It's something else that I can't easily explain. I'm a remote SWE now, and I go to a local office I'm not assigned to. Just in that tech circle, I have way more friends at work here than I did in Silicon Valley, where I

I would wager that you still end up with more disposable income in the end if you're single. I only decided SF or the rest of Bay Area wasn't financially worthwhile when I wanted to start a family.

About the "tautological" part: Economic feedback loops are natural and don't diminish from the value of being in the area. At one point I went there to open doors that probably wouldn't have been reachable otherwise. Sil

Microsoft already shoves Edge on its users via OS dominance. Seems way more anti-competitive than what Google does with Chrome.

Also, are there video games with ML-powered opponents or NPCs that'll act more like humans instead of the old-fashioned decision tree AIs? Seems about time. I know there are research projects that tried this for things like Starcraft 2

Seems like youtube-dl doesn't work anymore. I had to use a fork yt-dlp. Always makes me nervous hopping from one project to another like that, but seems like it's commonly used at least.

The "this bill doesn't go far enough" thing is normally what politicians say when they don't want it to go in that direction at all. Anyway, I'm glad he vetoed.

I ended up building jank Python-based tooling around it to sorta automate it. You select your key and it decides the ranges for you. Wonder if it'd be useful at all for live applications or just data processing. For the former, would n
