This so much. My HCOL area uses a hybrid approach: kids can always eat regardless and can run up huge $$$ tabs. The parents get pestered once it gets over a few hundred.

You’re right of course. That’s why these open source / weight releases are so critically important.

In my limited experience, models like Llama and Gemma are far more censored than Qwen and Deepseek.

It might be bad if its behavior wasn’t so anthropomorphic.

It’s Way Better than what we had before: software vendors making even arbitrarier decisions about how to classify them. There are far too many bad actors for us to operate as an industry with no yardstick.

If cryptocurrencies are self-regulating, aren’t the techniques used by these hackers actually the best and most effective way to play the game by its own rules? Calling this behavior “cheating” smells of sore-loserism.

Now that the area is open, the seabed there will be trawled and destroyed within a few years. No worries.

This. AI coding can almost turn an excellent product manager into a one man shop. We all know precious few exist.

Sure! Us olds routinely use microscopes. New things sure are small and you can’t solder it if you can’t see it.

Yes. E61s are full of springs and an orifice and a valve body that ramps the pressure mechanically. This is not only overly complicated but it exposes the brew water to dissimilar metals and adds a ton of surface area to shit up with rancid

It also increases the likelihood of a secure supply chain for mil components. Seems like a win-win.

An E61 is the wrong choice. They have fluidic mechanical pressure ramp system. A modern machine ought to have adjustable computerized pressure profiles.

The author’s assertion that models or systems can ignore important novel points when producing summaries/reductions makes complete sense, as average-ers of patterns indeed might even be expected. In any case it seems testable.

Super cool! What’s the logic used to determine what words are links? I found that it was possible to feed it new vocabulary and that it would turn those into links

This is very cool! One of the hardest things in tech is to teach non tech people to write decent bugs. Our team wouldn’t be able to use this because HAR records at L7 only, after browser content-decoding. A lot of the problems we find end u

Do you call all of LLMs “statistics”? I fail to see how anyone who has studied and worked with these systems could fail to see how they exhibit behavior of conceptual understanding.

Totally. Also basic temporal scale or cyclic properties. It’s kind of mind blowing that the shape of most recorded human patterns is reducible in this way.

I was happy to discover an inadvertent pitch drop experiment in my 100 year old house attic. The blob of glassy pitch was used to seal a spot in the original roof sheeting and has made 2 drops underneath so far and is working on a 3rd.
