Love these sorts of reflections -- insight about a career in software, from those that have been in it long enough to have one.

Reading this article reminded me of Steve Yegge's summary of Amazon's overall strategy: build a platform, not a product[0]. My takeaway here is that Amazon keeps reinvesting in making itself the platform through which sales run (w

Gardens aren't the only potential vector; when we were raising chickens in out backyard in Oakland, we had an egg tested and found that its lead content was quite high. Still, visitors seemed to love that we had them, and we never rece

Cool! My brother and I were thinking up project motivations for learning Swift, and Game of Life was one idea. Maybe this is part of a natural progression of learner projects, beginning with Hello World.

If you're making comparisons based on physical displacement, sure. But it's probably more helpful to think about how fast it will copy an equivalent number of bits, and from this perspective it actually will, indeed, take 1x10^-2

Those props sound interesting! Are you embedding the LEDs and circuitry in the juggling apparatus itself, or putting them in some stage props?

Funny way to arrange this comparison. To me it reads: for every Uber trip I take from my apartment in the Mission to my office in Soma, I would ride a taxi from 24th to 23rd street.

My post below asks the same question. Is this a regular phenomenon w/ PyPix? Also, I'd post a link to the original chapter here if it was publicly available; it's (of course) much more complete. Check out your local library&#

Thanks so much! I was really stoked by yesterday's related post (and your discussion in the comments). I also find it really interesting to see Scheme used in production; I sort of marginalized it (unfairly to myself, I'm sure) af

It's truly inspiring to see a project like this completed. I've been wanting to combine mobile (specifically Android) and some sort of Lisp dialect for a while. Am I interpreting correctly from some of the other components that do

This looks great. It looks a lot like what I've scraped together using a fabfile and Python dicts for configuration, but much more formal. I'm excited to try it out.

Great writeup. I always appreciate somebody else doing a down-to-earth overview of something complicated. This post makes me wonder if some sort of flowchart or UML diagram of the docker system components wouldn't be a useful thing.
