It's interesting that you mention the magic mouse. I switched to a Mac about 2 months ago and can't believe how uncomfortable the magic mouse is. Apple understand aesthetics but obviously haven't a clue about ergonomics. I've reverted to my

Hmm... I tried the app but encountered a few problems: - I could login with one account but it didn't show any apps - I added a different account but got the email address wrong so I deleted it again but this crashed the app :-(

Looks good and sounds ideal. I'll probably try it out soon although I don't have a pressing need to manage my servers from the iPhone. Has anyone else tried the other Heroku app which was released last year ( can't remember its name) to pro

It's not just the size of the Notes userbase which makes it attractive... It's the fact that every user of Notes hates it with a passion. A market ripe for picking I'd say!

Too often these types of optimisation ignore the actual real world usage but credit to the author for showing that it can seriously improve ActiveRecord performance (albeit 3-4x speedup rather than 200x). I have some Date-intensive models s

In my experience, it's easier to land a startup job straight out of college than a BigCo job. BigCo's look for X years experience, formal certifications, references etc. Startups look for enthusiasm, ability and a personal connection -- som

Well, I've been reading HN since before it was called Hacker News and I don't think I'll stop any time soon. It's not HN news which it making me want to start my own business but a desire to work on meaningful projects which fulfil my need

If by "start" you mean "quit your job and start full-time" then I won't because I have an unemployed spouse and 2 young children (and my current salary doesn't facilitate any savings). Of course, nothing stops me from working it once the ki

The thing is, Camera+ frankly isn't that impressive. It has a cute but useless SLR animation but there are better camera apps out there (Hipstamatic, GorilllaCam or just the built-in app). I'm actually disappointed that I bought Camera+ and

Personally, I feel authentication is one area where it's best to have "many eyes". Sure, rolling your own is easy enough but have you really thought of every edge case, every security exploit? It is also one area where most applications are

I'm comfortable with CSS and HTML but I'm not very good working from a blank slate so I tend to grab a plain HTML theme from ThemeForest ( http://themeforest.net ) and then modify it myself (usually: recoding it to use Blueprint, removing e

Thanks Patrick, I'm sure it was one of your blog posts that put me on to KISSmetrics so I'm interested/glad to hear that you're going to stick with them. Perhaps you'd do a review in 6 months time to see if their pricing plans vs the effect

Thanks, that was kinda the point I was making when I said KISSmetrics needed to make you $200 on the $149 plan... you'll have invested your own time into this tool so that needs to be accounted for.

Thanks for the reply Cindy (yeah, I think we corresponded once or twice). I'm relieved to hear this decision was based on some hard data and I can see how the pricing model might be good for KISSmetrics. Obviously, it's not quite so good fo

I can see the support point of view: reduce the number of customers = reduced support burden. But a "Starter" plan could come with lower (or no) support commitments. There could also be disproportionately less events (i.e., $10 for 20k eve

ok, but the URL still reads 'i-swearing' like some sort of Apple fanboy or humour site. It's also incredibly slow to load. Can't comment much on the idea though since my idea of fashion is whatever is at the top of my drawer in the morning.

There are people who insist on a particular capitalisation of their names (i.e., all lower-case, irrespective of grammar rules) which is surely no different from using characters outside the Unicode set. I'd be very careful telling people w

I've always wondered how/why Google provide maps to any iPhone app... normally such commercial usage will cost you $10,000 (per app/website). I assume there is a commercial agreement and Apple has paid major $$$ on behalf of their developer
