No idea why your getting downvoted for such an obvious statement, there is very strong (But not perfect) correlation between GDP and standard of living.

If Americans think zoning is bad and crippling house building, wait until they hear about the British planning system. Where every single building needs state permission and full review to be built. Which takes months to years per building,

Just chiming in to agree, I don't think we have a single mac in our entire company (100's of people). It's all just windows/x86 like every other business I've worked at.

This take annoys some people but... That's basically spot on, trying to convince people that they have to drastically lower or stagnant their standard of living is not going to be a successful strategy. Electric cars only started to ga

We shouldn't be spewing bullshit like this... It's going to get worse, but trying to spin climate change as some apocalyptic event where we all die is just silly.

"yeah doctors have no idea what they are doing" isn't really that far off the mark for a lot of things. The health of the average person in the west (And globally) is in decline. Obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer ar

That's just simply not true though... Do users explicitly care about how many milliseconds somethings takes? No definitely not Do they care if the application feels slow ? Yes absolutely Do faster experiences subconsciously feel better

Performance is obviously important, to suggest otherwise is just silly. Both Google and Amazon have researched this topic and the results are readily available. First link I found: https://www.thinkwithgoogle.com/marketing-s

One of the big reasons that the Microsoft store failed so hard was the absurd cut Microsoft wanted (30%). Windows developers were and are already doing app distribution. 30% for something dev's were already doing...

I'm not convinced that residential zoning should even exist. (UK planning permission seems crazy) Seeing some of the new housing estates pop up near me with zero amenities is shocking. No shops, no chippy, no pubs, no hair dressers etc

Certain for large lorries it's an unsolved issue, unless we have a large battery breakthrough. The weight of the battery to actually move goods very quickly becomes a major issue.

I think we just need to be real that, there are environmental externalities to many many things. Even when we take a good faith look at various issues it's entirely reasonable for other factors to trump environmental concerns. (Moral,

I think this is normally due to bad requirements or bad architecture. If a legitimate feature is complex there's very little you can do. Apart from push back on the implementation specifics. Quite often, code is too complicated due to

Been working on a legacy WPF project recently. C# has been pretty great to work with. (Updating from framework to NET 6 has been a slog though) Anything to do with the WPF and the UI just seems way too complicated. I can 100% understand why

If you look at Windows 11 minimum requirements it lists 4GB. Seems like a reasonable bar to test against. 2GB even a decade ago was very low end.

How are they directly related? Is Bezos, Gates or Musk at fault for high UK house prices ? No, it's a failing of government policy. Straggling house building for decades, leads directly towards rampant land speculation. (70+% of a hou

Like the great majority of health advice, especially from governments, limiting salt is based on what is essentially either a misunderstanding at best or pure pseudo-science at worst. First two studies I found when you google for Salt intak

If I wanted to make a native windows application I really wouldn't know what to use ? WPF is what I've worked with. But WPF is awful. When I was doing some games programming using Imgui for little widgits was actually quite nice.

It's nuanced. We are evolved creatures, with certain intuitions about things. You can point to domains about where it fails completely. (For understandable reasons) But that doesn't mean intuition is useless, in fact I'd say
