if you're not using multicast in pub sub, you're establishing individual tcp connections between nodes, it's not any different than doing N point to point communications, whereas with multicast, the data is only copied when needed, your dat

This is a sincere question, if you're doing science, why would you want to use ruby over python?

operator overloading doesn't solve the problem because you frequently mix elementwise operations with matrix multiplication and division. Converting types between numpy arrays and matrices gets cumbersome

Matrix multiplication isn't specific to scientific computing, it's a pretty common and large part of mathematics, and math is pretty general purpose.

when I needed a free version of matlab, I switched to python and have never looked back. better for me in every way. I think that python is a much better direction for that type of computing anyways.

yes but the redundancy you have to use with mongodb gives you a very low probability of that type of failure.

if your data can fit into arrays, then there's no advantage in terms of the types of aggregations. however mongo allows you to store complex structures, think nested dictionaries/lists, and query on those nested structures, even allowing yo

Is it just about the number of dimensions? Seems like you'd get decent performance with mongodb if each timeseries is a collection, and each entry was another document?

I'm not saying there aren't reasons to have short lines. But in science, we have longer and more complex expressions in general. Our priorities are different.

I wasn't aware of pep8 when I started, most science people arrive at python from a different path. What I mean is, for a long time I knew much more about numpy than about python itself. there are some things in pep8 that are bad for scienc
