Most white collar unions don't negotiate pay, other than maybe initial and minimum salary. Edit: I must say I don't think most people here get it. Unions negotiate with employers. The idea that a tech union would agree with tech c

Not if you want to actually have a career. This isn't day labor. To be successful in the industry you have to be part of good projects. Those often require at least a couple of years investment. And that is in addition to building a li

I didn't read the entire paper. But since is it does seem to be based on naming, did it also address the changing naming conventions of the time? Because early 20th century is also when people stopped taking their fathers name as a fam

I don't know about other countries, but for non-professional degrees in Sweden a program is essentially only a guarantee to be able to take certain classes. Otherwise you can take whatever courses you want, at whatever school you want,

You are probably thinking of Sweden. I have heard it is actually more now, like 200 years (the article says 140 years). Maybe even excluding the mortgage of the co-op. People are essentially renting from the banks, without any means to defa

I don't disagree with you, that is why people make those choices. But from a larger perspective it doesn't make any sense. Essentially everyone is in agreement that there are in theory more access and less barriers than ever. With

We do to a larger extent, but we also increasingly have similar social problems as the US. Economic freedom doesn't directly lead to good things. It is essentially economic freedom -> good social conditions -> good things. You ca

Sweden has never been distinctly socialist. But it used to be more socialist than today. For instance the Swedish government used to own Absolut Vodka from 1917, when Sweden nationalized the alcohol industry, until 2008.

It isn't really socialism as such though. Doesn't even the US already have these type of programs at least for certain groups? (you would probably need to expand them of course).

What is that doesn't add up? Of course if you want decrease your cost for salaries you can't have other people pay more. In fact, you want other people to pay less. That is how many of these companies started attracting employees

I think you are missing the point a bit. Opportunities aren't static. Someone gets to decide what should count. If you don't assert your case, someone else is going to get their way. And there isn't necessarily an objective t

The properly wealthy have done very little for equality in Sweden. Sweden also has relatively large wealth inequality. Egalitarianism in Sweden definitely hasn't been voluntary (and is more and more of a joke every day).
