I think a lot of it has to do with mental status, which can be concluded with one sentence -- "Are you happy with your life, and if not do you have a clear path to reach that?". People who say no probably has a lot of trouble to g

It's different. Electron apps all look the same without actually making much efforts to make them "personal" -- they just want to release an app ASAP so they chose Electron. On the other hand, the Win32 era "skins"

I wonder what is the memory foot print of the notepad application in NT 3.1/3.5? The OS is supposed to run on 16MB systems so 1.8MB is definitely a LOT.

I don't know. They look cool. If someone wants to bring them back it's a viable option. I'd definitely welcome it.

Just ask along the line "Do you have someone from FAANG as a director/VP? Because I have worked with a few and really loved the learning process" and do a bit of research once you know the name of the hiring manager.

I have a feeling that those slim margins don't really mean that Walmart is making e.g. 3 bucks on every 100 bucks ( https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/WMT/walmart/profit... ). There gotta be a

China's unofficial policy is to allow and tolerant competition within the sector -- and their economics model encourages the creation of a lot of companies in the same sectors too.

Not a new idea and the intention seems to be good. I wonder how will the implementation go. Where does the stores source merchandises? What is the volume of the five stores in total? How do they plan to offer a better price -- is it a perce

“more, better, faster,” I have heard these words, almost verbatim, from manager-yes-men coming from a FAANG background, and surprisingly concentrated in a certain demography (if someone find this offensive, I'll remove this part). My C

I don't know, but just look at Iran and US. Where is "rule of law"? Who is going to give it magically? Packages = ways to "adapt" to the challenges of the world.

TBH people in AI may also resent AI, because they are the first to be impacted by AI. They just don't say openly because frankly no one wants to lose his/her job.

I'm not saying that violence is legal -- which is definitely not. But it is part of the "packages" and totally depends on whether the one wants to use. Historically violence has been a very...effective tool. When people feel

Is MFC that bad? I'm inclined to learn it now and see it with my eyes. I dabbed into Win32 programming for a bit (really just a bit, like a few days) and it was tedious, but not really anything bad.

I think the whole world sails on that ship and MSFT just wants to catch up. Their most darling developer tools since 10 years ago are mostly by web and for web: Typescript, VSCode.

That's the point. I haven't but I would like to, and I realize that the so called "engineering" problems I work on is NOT real engineering. OK I was probably wrong about that "not hard" though.

Did your team work similar jobs as described in the book? That must be fantastic! Yeah I know most of work is 80% chore, but at least the other 20% part is fantastic.

I think the biggest problem of IRGC is that they grabbed a large share of economy but spent a lot of that in geopolitical expansion for the last 1-2 decades. This in turn contributed to a more fragile Iranian economy and high inflation, whi
