Yeah, I'm sure the NSA are trembling, if they gave two shits about laws or civil liberties we would be here, so I'm sure this isn't going to do a thing.

I agree with apple, the world doesn't need another weather app that does nothing more than animate clouds and snow etc. the apple weather app that we all saw today is a world clock, has pinch to summary, a ton of more useful info and w

And more programmer red flags! Dead reckoning and using the sun will get you really far in navigation. Unless you're trecking across the tundra or sailing the high seas, you'll need something a little Mir modern. This is getting s

Or, rather than stop at a gas station to buy an out of date paper map, you could get with the program and pull out your smartphone and have the worlds most advanced cartographic system at your finger tips.

Luddites among us! Run for the hills... A smart phone is a digital camera. Paper maps are like horse drawn carriages - sure they still work, but they are outdated, inaccurate and a relic of the past. It's like saying you still pull out

It's odd that you're on hackernews if you don't have a phone and use paper maps. That just seems like an odd combination. I actually find it very hard to believe that someone who develops for a living wouldn't use google

Why add pigment. Every stood next to a white wall in bright sunshine? There's also the aesthetic reasons, people don't just optimize for cost, they like things they live with to look a certain way. The likely reason is a bunch of reasons, i

I'm not sure what you mean by lag, chrome has preloading, possibly that's what you're seeing (negative lag?). I use Ubuntu 12.04 and don't see any "lag". FF is snappy. I use chrome most, but mainly because I prefer it's developer tools and

It's hard to know which side you're arguing for. The iPhone is likely faster, there are a plethora of apps that burst shoot, it can switch to video in a moment and it's faster to start taking photos. By the time the SLR has been set to P mo

the same old whining. If you don't like the new features, the blog clearly says you can choose not to use them, they provide backward compatibility. You say this has been done before, what hasn't. You should live with the features for a whi

What a naive perspective. Who, seriously, these days develops in a vacuum, referring to printed reference matter? Software development these days is a series of google trips to the likes of stack overflow and others. If we lived in an 80's

Referrers have nothing to do with pagerank. It's used in website analytics of course, and, in general is a very bad idea leaking information between websites. Search engines don't see your site's referrer data so the association you tried t
