“Change” is just the state altering. It can be the producers and it can also be the consumers that alter that state. The GP might be elitist with their view but it’s still just as valid opinion as the others shared.

Not really no. I’ve been using shells and authoring new ones for around 40 years across a variety of platforms. The term has always been pretty loosely defined because as technology evolved the term “shell” was borrowed. So like I said, a s

No. A shell is any user interface. Windows shell is explorer.exe and it used to be possible to change that via a config line in a system INI file. SSH protocol also isn’t just for CLI work. It supports file transport (eg SFTP), TCP/IP

Is it just the younger generation? I’ve seen all generations favour their phone over a laptop for anything that needs to be done online. Which is basically everything.

But if you aren’t technical and everything is done online, then it’s easier for non-techies to do it on their phone.

That’s the entire point of why people use a smartphone as their primary device: they don’t want the hassle of having to use a computer. And for normal people (ie not the readership of HN), using a computer is a chore.

I’m one of those top commenters who used to be a K8 naysayer. I’m also definitely not young blood. The reason my position has changed is because: 1. The tooling has gotten better for setting up and managing K8. 2. In two of the last 3 jobs

How much of that is due to the git CLI and how much of that is inherent flaws with the git VCS? I know git (the VCS) can become a bottleneck with massive monorepos at the scale of Linux or Microsoft. But is anyone likely to port them to som
