I agree with the no silver bullet thing - and written on another reply I don't even know if I agree with the example in the article. > The fact that a map() function tells you that you're converting elements of lists does not s

That is true (less so in FP languages though), but the for loop doesn't either - indeed I do prefer it most of the times, I think its a reasonable expectation to provide the most intention revealing constructs when possible, it'

I'm not against using for loops when what you need is an actual loop. The thing is most of the times, previously, for loops where actually doing something for which there are concepts that express exactly what was being done - though

This seems to not have any resemblance to the historical decline of the "Vedic Culture" way before any "colonising" by the "west". If the guys writing the history didn't mess it up, wasn't buddha hims

This was not to say that those things were left unattended or no effort has been made, it was in the context of the parent comment - dharmic definitions, and ideas, are fallible as everything else and can be corrupted and lead to the same o

Yeah, western countries are known for having about 50% of their population relegated to an untouchable status without any chance of social mobility or partaking in the benefits and rituals of the other 50% - and not only in this life, it&#x

Yeah, I mean, why would you want concurrency primitives when you can spawn a thread, or do mutexes, or do locks at the db level, or use redis as an actor, for when, for instance, you want to allow users to upload N simultaneous files, but h

Technically you would use Array.forEach(e => f(e)) If you don't care about transformations. Which is basically the same as your for Map is when you want to return a new collection with each original item in it mapped to a &

I think it's sort of obvious what the parent comment is saying? You gave an example of your experience with a different language, that has really not much bearing on the one being talked about. It runs in a different VM, it's a di

Does it really? A wrench? Maybe a banana. With the jungle and the gorilla holding it. And anecdotally, for me who never had the need to use distributed erlang in practice, the benefits lay completely elsewhere. Just looking at programs writ

One can hope, but sadly I don't think it's going to be an easy shift. People managing work, from what I've seen, still prefer to babble over their scribbled 5 basic points than taking the time to do their job and create relev

Ah, so basically you just have to create somehow a header file that D can use? I've looked into the `deimos` repos and there's a bunch of them, what I see is, C header files in a folder, then a folder with one or several d files (

If you go through the specs they're quite overwhelming, the basics are ok and perhaps that is essential to include on any design, but once you step a bit outside of hyper text it's really complex (or just want some degree of inter

I still don't understand the point about the deep pattern matching. In OOP you'll have an object that encapsulates all that knowledge, and in functional programming you'll have a module that encapsulates all that knowledge, c

I think that it would be helpful if you provided examples about those things, good and bad. As it is it's mostly "erlang's" bad - perhaps if you offer the counterparts to what would be a better pick we could have a discu

Well, this would be something that the IDE/mode you're using reflects. The indentation isn't "fixed", if you're inside a block it will be something, if it has an open parens, then it might indent on the open pa
