Why are "keeping the job I have" and "job hunting" mutually exclusive decisions? Keep your job and apply other places.

You seem to be saying that people are simply a product of their (random) environment. I think that too is oversimplifying the problem. How can we tell the "clever guys on hard times" from those destined to wallow at the bottom? Just sayi

The term comes from a paper process. Traditionally, balancing the checkbook was the act of reconciling your personal record of the checks you wrote (your "check register") against the statement the bank gave you at the end of the month, g

Crockford goes on to clarify that Javascript is really a combination of Java syntax, Self inheritance, and Scheme-like lexical scoping.

That's possible, but any browser that refuses to implement a sufficiently great technology will also risk losing users to browsers who give them a better experience. It will be turbulent, but the consumers will win in the end.

Except most people in America don't park at meters. Not at work, anyway. Most people park in parking lots, where there's no infrastructure for charging stations. How many businesses would want to distract themselves with maintaining and

Just because homeowner's insurance doesn't provide this type of coverage doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It may be a good idea for Airbnb to attempt to provide this type of coverage. However, whether they offer insurance or not does not ch

While that is true, robbery is not the crime EJ is describing. They did steal things from her, but they also set out to totally destroy her apartment and take things of sentimental value to her. I'm not sure what that sort of crime would b

Homeowner's and renter's insurance are not the only types of insurance there are. Who insures traditional BnB's?

There's lots of ways to protect yourself when renting to strangers. The fact that EJ and others do not avail themselves of the necessary insurance, etc. is what's reckless.

I'm not sure why this being downvoted. What liability does Airbnb have? Financially, the burden for the damage should be covered by the host's renter's insurance. If she wasn't properly insured, how is that the fault of airbnb?

I think this proves that the model of cheap , social housing will not work. The only way to provide the level of security that this woman is demanding is to dramatically increase the cost of the service or the housing to cover the risk

Do you think in this instance putting down a credit card would have helped? The vandals were obviously criminals intent on abusing a renter through the airbnb service. Wouldn't they have simply used a stolen credit card number?

That's ridiculous when applied to college education in general. Do you really think that history, mechanical engineering or business majors graduate only to find that their education is rendered uselessly out of date?

Completely agree. It made me cringe to read that the founders are already "credit councilors." It's possible that they could have the debtor's interests in mind, but unlikely given the state of that industry. The best advice I have found
