Setting yourself up as an authority isn't a fallacy. It's a rhetorical device. (Though I am not sure what makes you say that anyway. The article didn't particularly strike me as the author setting themselves up as an authorit

If you want to learn more about the history of the Venn-diagram ikigai concept, I suggest this post: https://www.sloww.co/ikigai/ TL;DR it was created in 2014 when Marc Winn slotted the word "ikigai" into a p

Fun tip: If you have an array of RGB you can shorten that somewhat const color = [254, 134, 29]; ctx.fillStyle = `rgb(${color})`; ctx.fillStyle = `rgba(${color},0.5)`; // I use this one pretty often

Well, that functionality is not included by default, but you can certainly add it yourself. Add a function to your host system (be it a browser, a CLI interpreter, etc) which accepts a wasm module you dynamically create, instantates it, and

Where does the article say that those other things are not also big problems? In fact, it specifically says strtol is one example of the things wrong with C. This comment seems needlessly dismissive.

Sure, if you define "intelligence" as "solving problems in a variety of environments to accomplish your own goals and self-replicate", then no, modern AI is not intelligent. You have just redefined intelligence so that o

I always thought binding default arguments early was a design misstep. JavaScript binds all default arguments late, for example, and as a result, default arguments are a lot easier to teach, and sometimes more concise to use. I understand t

The grammar textbook I used to learn called them "adjectival verbs." I think it's a useful way to think about it, especially if you consider that some auxilliaries like ない and たい also fall into that category.

It did for me. I switched from Pulse to PipeWire and my bluetooth headphones started working right away. Quite the experience.

> the Chinese ones are going to be much less stringent Hmm, what makes you think that? I didn't see any indication in the article that the Chinese branch was not testing to the standards of US certification.

People still think the moon landings were fake 50 years later, and that Bush did 9/11 20 years later. I guess most conspiracy theories must be true if we go by "still around after a year" as our metric.

That's what I thought too, until I actually used them extensively. The compiler tells you the correct order when you get it wrong, and I'm sure if you used an IDE (I don't) it would help you as well. And that was with Vulkan,

I can confirm this, having tried implementing an ECMAscript interpreter. "I'll start with just my own knowledge and tutorials, then I'll only need to read the standard when something is ambiguous" will lead to many hours

Sign languages don't only use hand shape, but also hand motion, body pose, facial expression, mouthing words, etc. Cropping still images around the hands won't do you much good at all.
