I'm just about old enough to remember when the no fly list was for (suspected) terrorists. Does it have a life prior to the 00s or is this a measure for containing terrorism an example of something introduced and then generalised?

Came here to say this. Credit unions are a thing, and it is increasingly easy to offer debit cards (via aggregators) through them. There's even open source software to help: https://www.fineract.dev/

I deleted my FB account and the only thing that I went back for was my residents association. I still have no FB friends - which is fun because I can see the algorithm trying to work out who I know. Eerily, it correctly identified my partn

I wonder if there's a generalisable statement in there - say, that all communication media will eventually become so swamped in noise that the signal is lost almost entirely? Maybe too pessimistic.

Could this be used with Tor, I wonder? GNS over TCP would make it possible and friendly names would be a welcome addition to tor.

I've been using Debian for 20 years and Arch for 5. Lately I've been trying to reconcile the traditional skills I have with more kubernetes oriented things. I've got a vague plan to write a helm plugin to talk to systemd and

Fantastic piece of software. I wish there was an android version so I could sync between my desktop and phone, but it is still brilliant.

True, bonds should be a safer investmemt. But the fact is, investors are doing stupid things and the markets just aren't rational. They never were.

Well, China has eradicated extreme poverty by means of communism. So that appears to be an option too. I'd be interested to see a relatively detached, objective analysis on the speed and extent to which poverty is alleviated by differe

GDP per capita includes public spending, but (I'm guessing here) may not include a weighting for what people value. So America's epic military budget counts towards that figure, but the comparison with (eg) universal healthcare el

I'd imagine not - a javascript frontend is still hitting an API, after all. A dynamically generated, static frontend (eg, HTML and some CSS) is something that can be trivially cached, too.

If memory serves, the story goes that the soviets trained their dogs with soviet tanks - so when they released the dogs into battle, they turned around and ran for their own tanks. Possibly apocryphal, but quite funny.
