I did it too and found it to be the same. It was years until I realised we had actually been doing rather good stuff.

As a regular glasses wearer, I really do dread the years ahead when I get mistaken for a glasshole. I suspect it won't be pretty.

In the app, account deletion currently errors saying the action can't be started. Hard to believe this is coincidence.

Is this not a symptom of where ICANN sits? Subject to American jurisdiction, so domain seizures make more sense for American litigants. In Europe, litigants must chase down ISPs who are the local gatekeepers. It makes sense that it works di

Positive results in mice also known as being a promising proof of concept. At this point, anything which deflates the enormous bubble around GPUs, memory, etc, is a welcome remedy. A decent amount of efficient, "good enough" AI wi

Reminds me of when bitcoin started running on ASICs. This will always lag behind the state of the art, but incredibly fast, (presumably) power efficient LLMs will be great to see. I sincerely hope they opt for a path of selling products rat

I'll be fascinated to see how this plays out for people with autoimmune conditions - generalised heightening of the immune system feels like it would be dangerous for those people. Are any immunologists lurking who might be able to spe

Why on earth does he have CPAP pipes, an oxygen concentrator, and a pulse oximeter? This is dated 2019 so I assume he was having sleep apnea, but in my nightmares I assume he's keeping someone in a coma.

Same here, DevOps by trade, allergic to ridiculous frontend nonsense, my comment praised the framework.

This is gorgeous. I hate frontend because of its sheer gratuity, and this is the kind of thing that might get me back into it. The only other contender for interactivity I'd consider is HTMX, and I'm going to boldly assume I'

I'd use it. I'd be curious to see how close to daily driving it is for stuff like calls, SMS, and email. Something not driven by a giant data mining company would be splendid.

I have a nasty suspicion that far fewer of them will be, that CS and SE based professions will end up collapsing and consolidating into a handful of AI megacorporations and a guild-like elite of AI-herders will be what's left.

A lot of it is! It has been this way for a long time in some parts of the public sector, eg: https://github.com/ministryofjustice I don't know of a department that does it as well as MoJ, though. Caveats exist around o

If memory serves, Dan Jarvis also did it, being both MP and mayor of the South Yorkshire city region or whatever it was called at the time. It is fairly innately political. No Prime Minister has ever polled as low as Starmer and come back f

That's possibly why: small businesses reliant on contracts that are, to them, disproportionately huge.. well, they die at the end of the contract. HMRC killed off an OpenStack based AWS competitor by replacing them, about ten years ago

I suspect GP actually wants an end to market pricing of energy and a move to a renewables-opex type of pricing, presumably with state financing and even operation. It isn't an insane idea: if it could be done cheaply enough and run wel
