I was writing both about ten years ago, and ditched Ruby with great joy after wrestling with dependency management. It isn't great in python, but Jesus, it was awful in ruby. I haven't bothered writing in it since.

Or we could do something crazy like respect democratic norms rather than descending into a plutocratic hellscape.

Correction: they used lime mortar. Modern concrete was created about a century and a half ago. The random bits were chunks of lime which increased the building's hydraulic qualities - lime self heals, concrete doesn't

You're both correct. Building grade sand is scarce and its extraction is environmentally catastrophic.

We need to stop using concrete as a building material: there are enormous numbers of alternatives and the vast majority of them use a fraction of the carbon during their lifecycles. For instance, lime stabilised soil has been used in large

The point is that it is not a single issue, but the result of many complex, interacting and interdependent issues. The stress of insecure work. The consequences of poor diets and little exercise. The cost of housing. The receding access to

Beautifully put, an answer approaching literature. I have the same feelings about Blackpool. Coastal towns really are monuments to another time. The houses are beautiful, too - a two bedroom flat in one of the old guesthouses on the sea fro

100% this. Few people have been able to answer the question of "how does it compare to a heat pump that has a SCOP of 4?" without me having to fight the urge to roll my eyes. By the time (highly explosive) hydrogen gets into peopl

I'm ready for my down votes for this but here I go: Electric bikes are cheap, efficient, fast enough, safe, good for your health, and good for the environment. Live somewhere that isn't bike friendly? Do the right thing instead of

Re: eco terrorism, I strongly suspect this will happen too. Domestically in places like the UK where the penalties for peaceful protest are increasing dramatically, and internationally when people start realising their lives being destroyed

"Stolen". Do you think taxes are theft? The idea of property is a legal one. It has no other basis in the world - if a democracy decides that property is forfeit if the law is broken, that is perfectly fine. See also, wealth taxes
