Haha. Reminds of the "The social graph is neither" article [1]. "Right now the social networking sites occupy a similar position to CompuServe, Prodigy, or AOL in the mid 90's. At that time each company was trying to figure out how to becom

It is my understanding that z-fighting occurs when the depth buffer has not enough resolution (due to floating point math). How is that related to whether it's hardware accelerated or not? You can easily get z-fighting with hardware acceler

I would just think this imaginary guy is an idiot. Unless he's working for himself but I don't think that's what you're talking about. You'd be pretty stupid to effectively work for free, or do you assume that this overtime gets paid? In an

I'm not so sure that a comprehensive test coverage is beneficial for a product like a game which is not really maintained over a long time period. Imo the biggest benefit of unit tests is for catching regressions, but a game you get working

You should read the post before commenting. They're not selling any games anymore, they're open sourcing everything. So how would it affect sales? And yes, you can, but if you take their code, fix it or whatever and then sell it you will st

I agree. Their exercise framework can really use much improvement and there are a ton of subjects that don't even have any exercises yet. I would like them to concentrate on math and physics for now and work on really making awesome content

Yeah, of course, right... that's why we have Lisp programs on space probes [1], PS2 games written in Lisp [2], PG's Viaweb, Maxima [3] among others, ITA Software, Emacs, StumpWM, and a ton of other stuff I can't remember right now. Ah not t

Google Closure (JS optimizing compiler and library) has nothing to do with the Google Web Toolkit which compiles Java to JS (GWT). ClojureScript is awesome in any case though :)

Agreed. With git (and I suspect this is probably inherent to dvcs) branching is very basic functionality, not an advanced feature.

That one is really great imo, because it doesn't use any utility libraries whatsoever which makes it much easier to understand if you're new to this stuff and have no clue what's what.

I agree. There are cases were break and continue are much more succinct and easier to understand, just as there are with goto (error handling in C for example, see linux kernel). To get rid of them just because someone considers it harmful

How would you implement a new control structure that way? I think it won't be possible unless you write a parser for the whole language. Take clojures "or" for example, it's just a macro. The language has only very few primitives [1] and t

I disagree. There is definitely a difference in expressiveness between languages for example Java and Lisp. Read "Revenge of the Nerds" by PG. But of course, you're right in the sense that I could implement a Lisp interpreter in any languag
