My friends who have become doctors here in the US say the same thing. 1st and 2nd year residents (the low paid gigs they get right after med school) often work 24 hour shifts pretty regularly with only 6-8 hours between shifts. I think the

Are a few firms overvalued right now? Of course. But that's nothing new. Healthy markets have a mix of overvalued and undervalued stocks. The main difference today is that most rational investors understand the diversity of software fi

I think every large team using Git has experienced the Git Force Push Master clusterfuck at least once. It's usually right after this that a mandatory gitconfig gets passed around.

This is awesome and I plan to use it in the future. I'm curious how you deal with possible fraud or how you insulate yourself? From an infrastructure perspective, how long did it take you to break even on your costs with Heroku? What k

Talent is only one small part of the startup pie. The other parts are ideas and investment. This is where both research universities and VC come in. I think doing a Bootcamp to increase the skills and level up the talent in your city is a g

That makes a lot of sense. I know Yammer does something similar, albeit with Puppet instead of Chef. Sounds like this could be a whole blog post on its own. Over-complicating the local developer story is a big reason that us and many other

Great post. This is interesting due to similar discussions we're having at work about moving from a monolithic Rails app architecture to an SOA. I'm curious though, what does the local developer environment look like when you run

Yeah, a payment plan would be key to making this work. Another option may be more of a subscription model where there is a monthly service fee associated with this, much like an Accountant would charge someone to do their books.
