I have a love-hate relationship with Ruby. On one hand, it's a very expressive language that's excellent for building structured, lightweight applications. On the other hand, it requires significant discipline and a strong memory

Don't know for you but for me the next thing for WebGPU is uninstalling Google Chrome. Manifest v3 my ass.

Thanks for the detailed response. Very interesting approach. I didn't know about FrankenPHP! You ever considered pure Go for the backend?

Well someone got inspired by Rubys Ractors hence the naming? https://docs.ruby-lang.org/en/master/ractor_md.html

Sounds interesting from a tech perspective. What PHP framework is it and at what abstraction level you handle forms?

If RPS become a problem you can probably switch to JRuby. I did exactly this 15 years ago for EUs biggest software company and it worked out quite well.

I’m not blaming and I fully knew what I was getting myself into. In the end it worked out and successfully launched etc. Just took me longer and had a learning curve that made me a better developer too. But had I wanted to just launch quick

This article is kind of the story of my life… I launched a SaaS app written in Go in 2013 coming from Rails and I had to figure out everything on my own. Migrations, database layer, asset pipeline, deployment, validations, logging, payments

I can fully relate. No one wants to travel in these unreliable, piss-stinking trains full of drunken criminals and islamists.

Am I a strange person because I use all three of them? Win for Gaming, Mac for creativity and Linux for coding. All three by the way support Jetbrains Tools, Sublime Text or nvim etc. So basically when maximizing an app you barely feel the

Ubuntu is really good these days. If you bought into the apple ecosystem with a recent Mac I’d not bother. But for those of your running a PC Ubuntu is incredible and their new App Store makes finding and installing software super easy. My

I like that. San Francisco is a dirty city with bazillions of homeless people and woke activists living in their bubble. It’s insane what happened to this once beautiful place.

Ps it’s unlucky that one can’t fix typos. Wanted to write too woke but hn blocks edits after a while. Nevermind this platform is quite dead anyways. The best part here is how one is only semi-allowed to criticize ycombinator startups or the

At that point why not use your own hosted open source model that is more reproducible for you?

Irony is that you post this on hackernews that is known to censor critical things that could affect ycombinator negatively. If you use a centralized service be prepared to get censored by the providing overlord if it goes against his agenda

Was it a bad design decision to not include nullable types in Go? I can't count how often I've seen this: Go: panic: runtime error: invalid memory address or nil pointer dereference

I remember that I bought it through the App Store just to find out that they offered a CLI that is only non App Store. Wrote them a mail and asked if they could change me to non App Store. Never got a reply lol

My friends: do we need tailwind as soon as Safari 17.4 is out? Chrome has @scope already available and safari soon. With @scope we don’t need utility frameworks at all and can make use of scoped css with css variables for unification. What

I lean towards simple stylesheets. Plain. Classic. No preprocessor required. No build. Something like Tachyons, Bootstrap, W3CSS, Foundation you name it. One less architectural component to maintain, update, upgrade, migrate etc.
