FWIW, we're using the Amazon Linux AMI (from Amazon themselves) and are quite happy with it. It is a pretty minimalist AMI, which is what we wanted. One caveat: it is in beta.

Beware overusing MBProgressHUD. It's a really nice library, but in general you should try to avoid modal progress dialogues in favor of progress that can be presented non-modally.

JSONKit ( https://github.com/johnezang/JSONKit ) is quite a bit faster than the mentioned json-framework. Also, an alternative to SDWebImage is EGOImageLoading ( https://github.com/enormego/EGOImageLoading ), which might or might not be bet
