The problem is that most places reward you based on "impact" somehow, not "impact had we not given you such a bad roadmap to follow," so being unplugged from the business side is rolling the dice w.r.t. future recognitio

Promoting cults is all well and good until your neighbor is in the wrong cult and then suddenly it's a disaster. My experience has been that "is religious" is not at all a good predictor of whether someone is going to be a &q

"Personality tests" have been a thing for a long time. The difference here seems to be that we're talking about diseases and not just differences between people.

I would definitely complain about this in code review without some performance testing showing that 1) it's actually faster than waiting for a lock and 2) it's better than just increasing the number of slots.

It's not that Indian culture somehow isn't as good. It's that there's sufficient supply there to fill all the positions at lower pay. If the exact same people manage to get a visa and transfer to SF, they will instantly

The problem with focusing on CoL as an "excuse" for low pay is that people really overemphasize how independent they really are from the world economy. It all seems like it works out evenly until you realize that if you ever move

I feel like for a very long time, the Right has been the most vocal about personal pride, "law and order," being an upstanding citizen, etc., but at the same time it's the Left that's still hamstringing themselves by try

Eh, i think you're thinking too small here. This whole thread is full of people saying things like, "When _I'm_ building a webapp," and "_My_ projects end up loading slowly," etc. Google is saying things like,

You're comparing mac people with intel vs mac people with M2. They are comparing non-mac people before M1 was released to after M1 was released and (rightly) pointing out that none of those people really care about this.
