I'm surprised this was (according to the TC article, so grain of sand) Dropbox's first acquisition — for their valuation and size it seems like they'd have started that ball rolling a year ago or so.

This concept - trading accuracy for efficiency - has always made intuitive sense to me, it's great to see someone building it out.

Yes, this is intensely annoying. I've stopped buying technical and reference books on Kindle because of this 'feature'.

If you're seeing repeats that's probably a bug, as this is supposed to be both random and fairly varied. I'm torn — adding permalinks has now made it much more complex to extend or revise the lexicon. I'll probably need to version the input

Good idea — didn't make the first cut but I've added them now. Thanks!

Very clever. Kudos on shipping a new rev of Word Lens, too.

My wife played with hers for about 15 minutes: 'Meh, you can have it'. The UI just isn't pleasant to use. Might make a decent Netflix machine but so far we're leaning toward returning it.

I can't think of anything more toxic to an already struggling company than for the leadership to not be fully engaged. HP needs full-time adult supervision, and whether or not she's got dreams of getting elected again Whitman will continue

Seems pretty clear he's leaving because Larry Page gave up on his creations. It's pretty simple to empathize with "this thing you worked hard on is great" followed by "never mind, we're going to kill it"

Well, yeah. Adding a cool metal thing to a hot liquid thing doesn't make that hot liquid thing stay warm longer. It's the same amount of net heat energy, minus the minor averaging effect the slightly cooler metal thing will impart. They're

Nice! I've been looking for some proper iOS functional testing for a weekend project. Along with WaxSim this feels like enough plumbing to roll into a Jenkins plugin.

The interaction modes look very shiny but in the same way "Minority Report" looks shiny. As to the name, I'll wait until Aza chimes in one way or the other but prima facie it feels pretty weird.

Judge Alsup also ruled in the recent case where Edge Games was trolling EA. Sharp guy, and clearly a low tolerance for BS. http://boingboing.net/2010/10/05/judge-rules-against.html

That's not Google doing 'everything it can to hamstring' — That's Motorola shipping a product based on an OS that's obviously not ready. Motorola's fault.

Considering they're confronted with a strident "Use the free Yelp app" banner, it's no surprise people steer away from the Yelp web experience on iOS.

This looks like a slick expansion of the idea here https://github.com/progrium/localtunnel/ Will be sure to kick the tires with a side project or two.

I do this all the time going SFO - JFK on United. You get an email with a link, opening that link on a phone shows a 2d barcode. It's quite simple and the scanners at security and the gate show your name and the agent checks that against yo

Doesn't say anything there about customers needing to be citizens. Obvious next step is to go make a fortune so you can spend a chunk of it as a passenger.
