I’d be interested in the results of a study that cuts out all social media, but the problem I can already see with that is self-selection bias (the people that would volunteer for it are probably already eager to get away from social medi

Thanks, interesting point and it hadn’t occurred to me that it would read like a direct quote. I can’t edit it now, so will leave this here to say that it’s not a direct quote.

There’s a few red flags here on the hiring side too. I’ve given a lot of interviews, candidates will always try to come up with the best story as an answer to your question because “I can’t think of an example” is not an acceptable answer.

IMHO this is the big story here. Large companies aren’t driven by opinion/ethics/politics except where there’s a branding incentive, so the motivation here is cost/risk. That these same companies are actively trying to nope r

I’m admittedly really out of the loop on battery tech developments but I was hopeful the industry was slowly steering towards iron/sodium batteries to replace lithium for reasons of cost and pollution. Did that hit a roadblock or is it

Now I'm starting to wonder if that guy habitually leaves the door open because he got sick of people winking at him with a wry smile every time he had to go to a job.

Same. I can totally buy the joystick and the robot as I've seen this done in my area, but the rack mounted PCs and the headphones makes it seem awfully like he's telling Tom Cruise which wire to cut.

This is just false. It’s a bit like that time Putin said he’d prefer Kamala with a wink and all the MAGAs started yelling “SEE!?!?”. It’s obvious enough reverse psychology that even a five-year-old would roll their eyes at it. Russian state

This misses the bigger risk of some nutjob somewhere pressing the button, or nukes going missing in less developed states with lax controls. I’m less worried about WW3 starting in anger than I am about it starting by oopsie/craziness&#

It’s pretty clear from Macron’s speech that we’re heading into a massive nuclear escalation over the next few years, he has as much as said so. Since the Cold War, nuclear non-proliferation has been based entirely on the idea that NATO woul

That’s entirely the point though. I don’t mind it at all , nor would I care, but it others people that don’t have an iPhone (especially teenagers), and they also suggest this in their explanation (that a green bubble means the chat is no l

You're totally missing the point of parent. The cost is in how insidiously this behavior ostracizes Android owners over time, just like they've done for years with blue/green bubbles. I'm an Apple user, and it serves me

I could see it being really useful for that, my only hesitation would be that here in Europe it would need to support Android due to how ubiquitous that is here.

This is a nonsense argument. The manhattan project was very intentionally an attempt to create a WMD, it wasn’t a side-effect of something else. You don’t have a point here.

It’s not not the same thing either. The purpose of eBay isn’t to facilitate illicit transactions, doing so is abusing the platform. SR was very much for illicit transactions.

This can be done. Not sure how on Windows/bitlocker but certainly with cryptenroll. Essentially you’d wrap this in your bootscript, though. So password (or pin) encrypts passphrase, passphrase encrypts LUKS and goes to TPM, then you ne

You might know better than I do, but I had believed that Bitlocker used TPM PIN when you use a PIN, which is challenge/response (i.e. if PIN matches then TPM releases key) so wouldn't help in this case. If Bitlocker PIN is split k

Would you be better off using split key encryption or encrypted secret key? If you have to put a password in before boot that needs to be combined with the TPM key to unlock the drive, it would help in scenarios where a TPM key can be found
