It shouldn’t be. There is no monopoly. There are people that are mad you can’t get blue iMessages from an android and you can’t side load “easily”. That’s it.

That's not the experience my wife has had. She's been on one of these drugs for a while and still gets insanely hungry, but she's able to feel "full" with a much smaller meal than before taking the drug. If she ov

In my opinion, the issue is that the user's definition of "best results" and Google's definition do not align, including the Search team. Google's incentives are very different than user's needs.

The original Google whitepaper warned against the exact moves Google made years later with ads. It's fun to go back and read their thoughts on ads and how they completely change the incentives of the search provider. "fun"

Additionally, since the reddit-google deal, this only works on google anymore. I search on DDG for recent reddit content and there is nothing returned, as expected. Google really does seem determined to completely destroy internet search.

While enforcement may not have changed, attitudes have. If someone lit a cigarette in a bar today, they would be immediately thrown out. If not by the staff, by the patrons.

I try to follow this rule, 3 or less - cameras can be on, 4 or more - turn cameras off, they are a distraction.

These are problems unrelated to the topic at hand. We aren't going to solve every bit of this situation in this comment thread. Who pays for it? Not my problem. I'll use whatever free service exists, there will always be one. W

They wouldn't be less relevant. If I were browsing a mountain biking forum, I'd see ads for mountain bikes and other related services. They would be MORE relevant, rather than the current ads I get for the product I bought 2 mont

Please read again. Modern advertising is what I'm against, not advertising as a whole. Similarly, I'm against lead pipes for plumbing, not plumbing as a whole.

Short and simple response. > *Advertising in it's current form* is a plague on humanity. Magazine ads were not highly targeted towards every user that bought one. We liked magazine ads, they were high quality and usually contextua

> why are personalized ads on a website indispensable? They aren't. This is exactly what I mean by modern advertising. If ads were just contextual based on the content of the page, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

What’s hard for you to understand? Plumbing is good and useful. Plumbing using lead pipes is harmful. Advertising can be good and useful. Modern advertising that requires tracking everything a user does is harmful.

I fully understand that advertising enables many businesses. But there have been businesses based on lead pipes for drinking water plumbing, asbestos for residential insulation, and so on. You could make an argument that these technologies

> Why wouldn't people pay for something highly useful? Typically because they can easily get it for free. Perfect case study is WinRar. How many people actually bought a license for software they used daily?

I would LOVE a streaming bundle that included all the content for a discount if and only if it remained ad free. The big draw for me for streaming is not price, it is removal of ads.
